so I have not been able to ride my bike at night because I kept blowing lightbulbs. Troubleshooting led me to test everything from start switch completely torn down to the hi/low selector also being taken apart. Chased every yellow wire from alternator. One thing I should of realized from the beginning was that the 18 volts at idle was not a good thing but it took a lot of google searches for me to figure that out. So yes at idle I was getting anywhere from 15 to 19 volts. Any type of revving was giving me 18-20 volts and it came down to the regulator rectifier. Well thank god I have a spare 2009 Honda CBR 600rr. Took it off and trimmed the 3 yellow wire tabs about 1mm each and plugged them in. I know its a lot bigger then stock but I have a 2004 Yamaha R1 subframe so I have room to hide it in.

Yeah I read all that but why use an r1 rr when I have a Honda one. I saw the VFRness but no thanks. 100$ for 3 wires and a fuse. I still have warm wires but already started to make my own VFRness.

so I have a parts bike that I can cannibalize parts off and I did. Its all the same colors.
So what I did was cut off the plug from the original R/R

plug in all the wires respectively. I had to trim the 3 yellow wire spades but the power and ground fit perfectly.

I used this type of RTV because I have had it for about 5 years and it was free.
pack the plug with as much rtv as you possibly can
    [IMG]
once you got it packed with RTV then you slide the old factory plug up and in place and let the RTV dry over night

I also made my own version of the VFRness but didnt take any pictures because well I just didnt think to do it.
