hi i ve few queries about charging system of Honda vfr 750- 1986. My rectifier/regulator was working fine but today it stopped charging the power supply from 3 wires is cooming but no output is there after Rec/Reg. checked all wires by touching ground but no power. when all system was fine the problem was overheating of Rec/Reg. as i m from India its hard to find rec/reg here so can you please help me in few queries. 1. Checked the three yellow wires cooming out from megneto all wires give spark when brought together but does not show any spark while touching to ground one by one. the voltage output from 3 yellow wires showing 26 -30 volts while engine is at 1000-1200 rpm and same goes upto 140 - 160 volts when rpm goes more than 5000 n above. Are these readings normal or faulty. 2.What is the output of current from megneto is ti DC or Ac from these 3 yellow wires. 3. Can i use two yellow wires instead of three wires for supply to rec/reg that has two phase input Will it be safe for megneto. rec/reg is after market of some other bike. 4. What should be the output readings of rectifier/regulator in volts at different rpms. regards Vicky

IMG_0899 jpg.JPG IMG_0901 jpg.JPG Alternator output is in AC volts.

Measured voltage with engine running between ground and any one of the yellow wires (with R/R disconnected) should be between about 8 volts at idle up to a max of about 60 AC volts at 5000 rpm.

You need to inspect the plug connectors between the stator yellow wires and the R/R for any burning or melting, a VERY common failure due to dirty, corroded, loose connectors. Also inspect plug atop starter relay for any melting.
