Bike: 85' VF700f (with a VF1000f engine). Brake rotors are factory - and so is the rest of the braking system.

Bike's issue: The only thing I know about the pads is it's time for their replacement. Been reading about different brands (and no-name e-bay brands) and believe I will be getting EBC's due to only finding good reviews.

My issue: I have read pro's and con's of organic VS. sintered and now I am more confused because some of the... and the rotor wear... but if wet... or if downhill... heavy riders... light use... but it last longer but doesn't... pushing heat into the caliper ???

My plea: So... would one of you experts out there just tell me which damn pads to get please?

I don't race the bike  ... but I love to flog the hell out of it occasionally.... on approved courses

Oh yea, is it ok to use car oil in my motorcycle? (just kidding)

People tend to shy away from sintered pads on older bikes with rare or expensive rotors for fear they'll damage them.
I ran organic pads on my CB1 and hated them. They had no bite. I replaced them with metallic pads closer to OEM. I was too afraid to run HH pads on it. It's up to you but I would stay away from organic.

I gots EBC HH maxi-pads and EBC rotors and see zero wear after ten years at least. I have some organic pads sitting in a drawer in one of my tool boxes. Can't give you a report on the organic ones as I have not ridden wit em...

Brakes are important, look at it this way, what if you had to replace your rotors down the road (a few years); but by having superior stopping power you were able to stop in time and not get run over by that semi, would'nt it be worth it? Thats the way I think aboot tyres and brakes...Thats just me though...I have tried OEM honda stuff and was un-impressed with them...

Thats why I can't run organic pads, because my vegan father will eat them. It helps if they are GMO free too! Don't try to twist that into some kind of homosexual thing either! :pound:

Looked up EBC rotors, they run about $150 each on e-bay. To replace rotors and pads is damn near $400, and that's just the front! Organic EBC's for the front is only $50. It looks like it's easier to just get run over by the semi.

Anyone know how the factory rotors hold up to HH pads, $300 extra for their rotors is not in the budget. Remember this is an 85' ceptor, so the damn rotors may be made out of pot metal as far as I know.

I'm thinking organic's are out of the picture cause they are messy, and have too many carbs - don't want to screw up the Adkins.

Stayed up late doing more research. Looks like the "V" pad may be a compromise between the two. EBC claims they have replaced some of the harder metals in the HH pad, and added copper (softer) so the pads would be easier on rotors. EBC claims the wear of the V pad is similar to the HH.

The V-pad is "semi-sintered". Is that the same as "semi-metalic"?

Thats funny! If you private message me, I will give you the old phone number of the EBC rep that I used to tawk to.

Sounds like the Vee-Pad might be good for you. I have no expeirence with them though. I got my EBC rotors on barter working as a slave, back then, they were $150 a side...I dont wana get run over by a semi, so; in my mind, I would spend the extra money for an iron rotor with "tits" stopping power...Thats just me though...

I am getting near brake replacement, so I am very interested in this discussion! Still running original pads and think a little more bite would be better. Especially rear brake.

The local shop here only carry the EBC HH pads and not the OEM. They highly recommended the EBC pads. I just put a new set on my VFR800.

Funny thing was that my bike was 20 years old with the original pads on the rear, they may have been changed once and were Ferodos, I remplaced them with what I think were OEM Honda pads...My bike only had 75,000 miles on the rears though...I did fluid changes over the life span of the bike though...

Well, thanks all for your perverted advise. I decided on trying the semi-sintered "V" pad. Did not want to go with cheap pads, but did not want to replace rotors or eat up my current good ones. If you don't hear anything from me that is because I got ran over by a semi-truck by not gettin

EBC has a disclaimer on their site aboot some of their pads and some rotors (discs)

Sintering is understandable but WTF is semi-sintering? Sounds like somebody thinks we got run over by a (yes) semi.

This may be as good a place as any to also define the difference between perverted and kinky:

    Kinky: Uses feathers

    Perverted: Uses whole chicken
