    Hi all.

After looking around I think this is the best place to open this thread.
I'm looking for a mechanic in Orange County or the southland to help/teach me how to do a valve check, and if need be, valve adjustment.

I don't mean a shop or a dealer to take it to, I'm trying to hire a VFR rider who is familiar with this procedure and is willing to teach me how to do it.

A friend of mine helped me do it at 20K miles, but long story short, he end up doing it himself and I didn't have a chance to learn. At 20k miles, it was within specs, but I'm at 30k miles plus and I think is time to do it again.

I could try and do it myself for as long as it takes me, but my bike is my only means of transportation and I need to do it in one day. I know that an experienced person could get it done in a few hours. Hope I'm not being delusional here.

I don't know how many riders from socal are on this forum or if anyone is interested, will posted the same request in the other forum as well.

Let me know if you are interested. Any takers? Thanks.

    2004 VFR 800A.

    Jerry

    Hello mofo
Just my advise......if it not knocking and if you not abuse your bike leave it and keep on riding. You said the bike check at 20k and it in spec. Do you know if the gap are well within tolerance or on the border? Many members here are past 100k miles and not even touch the valves job.

Thanks everyone. My friend who did the last valve check suggested I'd check them again at 30k miles, but after reading the replies I'll leave it alone for another 20k or so.

Scuba, according to him all valves were within tolerances. One was close to the max, but still within range.
Was your avatar picture taken at Borrego springs? I been there.

That picture dates back to 2008 if I remember right. No viffer for me on the horizon yet, now is a different story.
I'm ready to ride! Problem is, I work weekends and "normal" people don't, that's why I rode mostly by myself and during weekdays.

I don't know if it's cheaper to just let it go to xxx,xxx miles and save the valve check money and buy another engine when it does finally die or to actually pay someone to do it. I've heard its like $500-700 depending on the shop but yet I can find a low 10k mile motor for like $500 complete. I mean I'm sure I can swap the motor in the same amount of time it takes to do the stupid check.

I might just wait till my bike starts idling like crap before I do it lol.
