I have a 6th generation VFR and the ECU died on a road trip.

Does anyone now of any good online salvage yards where I might be able to find an ECU?

    Thanks!

    Oh shit!

That's not good. :pout: Can't imagine there are a lot of those in the salvage yard yet.

I believe most all of the salvage yards post that stuff on ebay to get max exposure.

Just wondering if that will work for a 2004? Part numbers are different.

Not sure if this is also relevant by when I exported my 2007 UK VFR800 to France I had to swap out the ECU - as the power output exceeded the maximum BHP allowed for French registration. I recall the process was made more expensive as I had to get new keys coded to match the new immobiliser settings in the new ECU.

The different numbers may have to do with the different programming of the ECU. The map is different for the 2006 and newer bikes; the VTEC engagement point was lowered to 6600 RPM instead of the previous 7000 RPM. I don't know and am too lazy to look it up to see if the plugs are different...

check the return policy of the dude and snatch that up cause the price is decent. I'd bet it'll work, but I have no personal experience so I can't say for sure.

I'll probably pick it up. It's kind of crazy why the 2 different ecu's cost is so different.

    2004 New $661

Another thing the Honda dealership diagnosed the issued by pulling an ecu from a new VFR and putting it in mine. So maybe it will work.

Honda dealership did not recommend using the 06 ecu. So, if anyone knows any good online salvage yards. I have been looking and nothing on ebay yet.

I think he was a little scared cuz his kid was building a sandcastle off in the distance, and I told him I owed you one castle destroyed!:chaingun:

He said it's a completely different part and that I would most likely end up with some technical issues. Miss firing or worse.

Kind of funny that the parts prices vary so much. Makes me think something is different about each part.

I suspect the different ECU was how Honda implemented the changed vtec cut-in thresholds which applied from 2006 onwards models. I don't know whether there were any mechanical changes implemented at the same time which could cause other issues, but I noticed that the ABS sensor ring on the later models seemed different from earlier ones so I guess the breakers may have good grounds for being wary about suggesting you fit a part from a later model.
