I have a set of what look like the old Morris Mag wheel (the multi-spoke ones usually painted gold) that I bought a few years ago off eBay for my VF750F. I have a couple of questions for anyone who might have some experience restoring (or having it done) wheels. Any way to tell what material they are made from (the seller told me magnesium but from the looks of the corrosion it could be aluminum)? I have read something that said the old magnesium wheels are prone to breaking without warning so it is a concern. Are there any good reputable wheel refinishers? I know about the guy in the NE that straightens/repairs, but he doesn't do painting.

    Thanks for the help.

    got pic?

Can you post pictures of said wheels? Outside of that I am a powdercoating guy all the way. The only good way to tell a good one is to stop in and look at the work they do and make sure they tape off bearing and brake mounting surfaces correctly.I have two bikes with powdered wheels and one without....the cleaning of the wheels is night and day form one to another....painted wheels stain and must be scrubbed ...anger:thumbsup:

I just had hernia surgery today, and the wheels are in the garage attic. So, no way to post pictures for at least a week. I'll do so once I get the chance, as I also have to dig out am aftermarket rear shock I'm not going to use and try to sell it.

Okay, I made it up to the attic. Here is what I have: EPM wheels, made in Italy in 1983. Front 3.5 X 16, rear 4.0 X 18. They are stamped "Competition use only, not for highway use." The finish appears to be the original gold paint, they definitely need to be redone but I want to get them done correctly the first time. Any help?
