I recently got my first VFR 3rd gen 1990. COMPLETE. She needed some work(still does) no biggy almost done aside from paint. I did however have some new and unusual requests. I also bought 2 motor/frame combos, and want to build yet another bike but am having difficulty finding same year stuff. (much to my shagrin is the case no matter the bike I own) ANYWHO. I am wondering (since I do not trust my local dealer) would the 94-97 750 swingarm, forks, brakes mount right up to the 3rd gen mods? This question is either going to set me up or back depending on the knowledge and answers I get. REASON - I want to make one street fighter, and see how much weight I can lose on the fighter build and transfer the weight savings onto my daily ride. (I am in process of making my daily ride race ready (by mods anyway) Just for weight savings, I.E. minimal bolts in the front rotors, rear rotor, frame areas wire tie. etc... any info that I get would be greatly appreciated. NEGATIVE or positive. Thanks guys (gals if any) for your time assistance, and patience.

minimal bolts in rotors sounds dangerous....

fewer bolts will over-stress the ones remaining and if something breaks........well !!

weight reduction might start with unbolting the centerstand and somehow replacing the very heavy glass headlight with a modern plastic unit. bar end weights might be something else to remove if vibes don't get too bad.

    3rd gen mods

    1. Some bolts are required, i.e. rotors, calipers, engine mounts, frame, etc. Bolts ate places not seen holding things onto the subframe, etc, not required.

    2. I THINK the 4th gen rear will bolt right up. I understand its a little shorter, but no other changes.

Usually the strange look is the rear fairing with no other plastic.

Hiding wires and stuff used to go into the headlight bucket, so big buckets were used. Most modern ones are dual small cans, even HID, no room to hide wires, so you'll have to be inventive.

Here is info you need to transplant the 4G SSA to a 3G:

90-93 VFR (shock linkage mount is two lobes on bottom of swingarm)(shock end is a 'fork')
    Length: 565
Pivot width: 242 (+3.5 thrust collar)
    Pivot diameter: 20
    Eccentric outside diameter: 105
Eccentric width: 70 (+3 crenelated 'edge')
    Caliper carrier diameter: 75
    Caliper carrier width: 14
    Brake rotor diameter: 255
    Brake rotor mount diameter: 110
    Sprocket mount diameter: 175
    Wheel drive diameter: 100

94-97 VFR (shock linkage mount is one lobe on bottom of swingarm)(shock end is an 'eye')
    Length: 560
Pivot width: 227 (+3.5 thrust collar)
    Pivot diameter: 20
    Eccentric outside diameter: 105
Eccentric width: 70 (+3 crenelated 'edge')
    Caliper carrier diameter: 75
    Caliper carrier width: 14
    Brake rotor diameter: 255
    Brake rotor mount diameter: 110
    Sprocket mount diameter: 175
    Wheel drive diameter: 100

As you can see, you will need some wider spacers for the 4G, and being 5mm shorter it will affect turn-in somewhat.

The entire front end assy from a 4G will fit the 3G, and you get the benefit of better suspension and brakes.

If you want to lose weight off the VFR, you will have to do some serious surgery; losing a few bolts ain't gonna cut it. AND you are planning to lose the wrong bolts; the rotor bolts are not ones to remove, you will only lose a few grams. Lose all the fairings, get a different headlight, do something about the rear subframe, stuff like that.

Is the lint a garnish or a sidedish?

RC-30 wheels if you can find a set and then need single bolt axle for swing arm.
If rear sub frame is steel so make one from aluminum.
