So as a preventive thing before a big trip, I just installed the roadstercycle mosfet RR and wiring kit onto my 2000 VFR. Prior to the upgrade, I was seeing 12.x volts at idle and 14.1 volts at 5000 rpm on the stock RR (20K miles). After the upgrade (I soldered the stator wires direct and stator checked out good) I see 13.5 volts at idle and 13.73 volts at 5k rpms. Seems a bit low to me but I suspect my Batt. An hour after a full charge I see about 12.4 volts. Bike has been perfect with the stock reg and all so I know its healthy. Am I ok with the new Reg?

I would take a few photos of your install and shoot them to the Roadstercycle, even get on the phone with the guy.......

The install is very simple and i did it right (took me 3 hours cause i checked everything twice and routed everything nice) like i said i soldered direct to stator and everything is good. Checked before and after. I am seeing enough voltage to charge but i am suspecting my battery may not be 100 percent. A idle (1400) I still see 13.6 with high beams on, etc.. Just does not get higher han 13.73 at 5K rpms.......

Sounds like you need to do the charge up the battery and go get it load tested. - I havent heard of any of these R/Rs running less than 14v at 5k rpm.

If this R/R is truly a 'regulator', as opposed to the 'shunt' we have in our stock units, the 13.7V is fine (IMHO, of course). Having a higher voltage than is required to charge the battery just burns off the electrolytes quicker (and shortens the battery life).

I am suspecting that but I will send Jack at roadstercycles an email and see what he thinks.

    Update guys:

So I emailed Jack at roadstercyle....super nice guy btw....and the first thing he tells me is to check the voltage with a different meter. Low and behold...i find out my meter is reading 4 tenths low!! So at idle I am getting 14.x volts and at 5 k i am seeing 14.1x. All is well! Install was a snap and i can ride in peace now, lol

Scary thing is, the stock reg was giving 14.5 volts at 5 k which is a bit high! All this frickin time i am thinking my batt and charging system is marginal and it is all because of a damn shitty voltmeter! Son of a....:chaingun:

Actually, you're much better off with a real regulator. The whole system will be far more reliable than with the stock shunt type.
