I too have a 93 with a chain that is very sloppy. I keep hearing a slapping noise in the motor, and was told it might be this. After tearing the whole stinkin bike apart to get the oil pan off, I noticed that it is very loose. I don't see anywhere on the case where it has slapped it, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the noise is. I also haven't ever seen a cleaner oil pan, for having 74k on the beauty, she was clean as a whistle. I want to replace the chain, but how does a guy go about it? Do you have to remove the clutch basket? I took the the three 10mm bolts out of the oil pump itself, but it wouldn't fall out because the sprocket is held up by the chain. Does anyone know if there is a master link in the chain?

any info would be much appreciated

    Thanks

I have figured out that the chain isn't slapping anything. It is loose, but I am gonna leave it for now. I have already purchased the new chain, so if anybody does need one, I will cut you a deal. Clutch basket does have to come off as well as the (for lack of better words) the round thingy next to it.

I would not sweat the oil pump chain, they all look loose as a goose.

As TOE said, these things are supposed to be loose and I wouldn't sweat leaving your old one in there.

That being said, if I was rebuilding a motor from the bottom up, I wouldn't mind putting in a new chain. It just so happens, I have a motor I'm slowly acquiring parts for and intend to rebuild once I get everything I need for next to nothing. And now, having said THAT, what do you need for the chain?

    Otherwise, you could try fleabay

I would ask the same in your shoes. Unfortunately, I have other more pressing expenses. Thanks.
