I'm considering doing the oil/filter change on my '07 Interceptor. The part that concerns me is taking the cowl off to access it. Does anyone have some detailed instructions (link) to go about doing this. I saw in the forum where someone had done it on 5th Gen bike, but I wasn't sure if they were the same. The bike I have appears to have a Cannister in front of oil filter. I'm sure it's some type of pollution device.

    Thanks for your input.

All you have to do is remove the left side fairing and the upper left insert to the left of the dash. The main thing to know is that the black plastic push pins must be removed by first pushing in the slot on the head of each one before pulling it out. Check your owner's manual and it will explain things better. At first, I made the mistake of just pulling on it, then I realized that if it wasn't coming out, then I'm doing something wrong. Read the manual because when you put them back in, then you have to prep them accordingly. Getting to the filter is also no problem. You can get the old one out and the new one in without moving anything.

Here is the link to the Service Manual for 6'th Generation bikes: http://www.xar.it/Download/service manual.honda vfr 800 vtec 2002.pdf

The manual tells you everything you need to know (You only need to remove the LEFT FAIRING). The plastic screws that help hold the fairing on were a pain in the ass to put back in, so refer to the manual.

My filter was on waaayy too tight (installed by the dealership I guess) and the socket (specifically for this filter) kept slipping. I actually had to ram a screwdriver through both sides of the filter to gain the leverage I needed to remove it. It's a pain in the ass to clean up, so only do this as a last resort

Im fortunate enough to be able to access the filter without removing any plastic, on my lift i am able to slightly bent out the black mud flap thingy behind the front tire and reach right in to access the filter. i use a mobil m1-110 filter its slightly larger that the stock size and comes close to the radiator hose but does fit, (and no im not a contortionist!!!)
