i got my bike from a junk yard a couple months ago. we fit it into a jeep cherokee so it was on its side
when i went back to the junkyard i mentioned oil leaking from the exhaust and they said it was because it was on its side.
now its sat up for awhile and been leaking. when i finally sort of got it started it smoked like no other obviously and there was just a massive puddle of nasty oil. moved it to another place in the garage to get it out of oil, started it and it did the same thing. huge puddle of oil
is this caused by the bike being on its side for 2 days or is there something else causing it

It could be any number of things, the bike being on it's side for two days is certainly one of them. I would look into takeing all the effected areas apart and cleaning them as much as possible. Then you'll just have to let the remainder burn off. You may want to consult a mechanic on this as it could be serious.

The only way oil can get into the pipes via the engine is through the exhaust port, which should be dry even if you flip the bike on it's side. It could possibly have come from an oil fouled airbox through the combustion chamber when you started it though. Or the rings are so shot that it has consumed and spit the oil out the last times it was run.

Sometimes fuel can leak into the engine...when it dissolves the carbon from the combustion area it ends up looking like really thin black oil.

My experience with oil or coolant contaminated pipes is that it takes at least a good twenty minute highway ride to make the smoking go away (such as after a rebuild or head gasket replacement). Of course if the issue hasn't been fixed it will NOT go away.

oil is coming out of back of pipe or near the head?? Try riding for 20 minutes as other member said and take off body work clean the engine off(carwash degreaser)then find the leak .. but as you stated you found it in junkyard bad place to buy things you expect to work right. might be rebuild time .. post more info would like to know what is going on here. also what year is the viffer??the massive puddle of oil sounds like a case leaking standing upright it shouldn't leak out quart of oil.good luck..
