    Hi,

I picked up an 02 VFR 800 late February for commuting, and as I've done about 5k since then I guess an oil and filter change is in order.

I've got genuine Honda parts and the bike is unmodified.

Are there any common gotchas I need to keep an eye out for?

    Cheers, Jon.

Main thing is to be gentle with the plastic push pins, especially the ones on the underneath of the fairing.
You push in the center with a small screwdriver or such, then the pins can be removed. Sometimes you have to
fit something under the larger diameter head and, gently, lever it off.

You don't need to remove both sides of the main fairing. Just the left side, and the black inner part in front makes
    it a bit easier.

And you will probably get oil on the front exhaust headers when you undo the filter.

Wrap with foil, peel off when done, also insulates you from the heat just a tad.

for better engine life, pre-fill the oil filter w about 1/2 quart.

    That's a great tip!

Oil change done, only two casualties, one of the plastic bolts from the bottom front of the fairing broke and one of the rubber mounted nuts that holds the fairing under the right bar failed.

Minor things and not bad for a 17 year old machine with 53k on it.
