picking up a '98 vfr800 this week, looking to upgrade the suspension for aggressive street use.do you guys have experience with ohlins shock.also what fork mods?? thanks
I haven't worked with an Ohlins, but it has an excellent rep. I have replaced both front and rear springs with the Hyperpro springs ('01), and it transformed the handling from wallowy to responsive. My stock shock is only 11K miles old so it's not worn out, but the spring set is $250. and worth every cent. www.hyperprousa.com Scott
I have an Ohlins on my 87 VFR. I have been considering one for my 2008. I see Ohlins lists several models. Are they based one ride height? Rider weight or both?
you can upgrade the fork internals with Ohlins springs as well, there are also severl other highly regarded fork upgrade kits
I upgraded to the Ohlins rear shock at 15,000 miles and love it. It made such a difference that the wife noticed it when riding pillion. Dunno whether it is worth the money or not but it does make a big difference in the ride quality.
Just installed Ohlin's, can not say enough aboot the quality and support. Expensive but money in the bank. Here is a link to where I bought it, was the best deal by a long shot and these guy's are an A+ act as well. Customer service is everything and they could write a book aboot it. Ohlins, Ohlins Forks, Ohlins Shocks, Ohlins Dampers, Ohlins Supsension
I'M curious which model Ohlins to select for my 08 and what the differences are. I enjoyed the one on my 87 and if i recall there is a threaded nut that seems to adjust ride height. I'M considering a lowering kit as well as I'M not quite flat footed enough on the 08. Wondering if an Ohlins might also reduce the need for a lowering kit. When I installed mine in about 1992 it was about $550, which mean if it's like everything else the price has gone triple. I see from the Ohlins site they are listing about three different models for the 08 VFR.
if memory serves, and it has been a few years since I bought mine, the differences were in adjustability, the higher price had more adjustability - and the price was like $800, $1,000, and $1,200. But that was 3 or 4 years ago.
