Well, the wife and I have been talking about a new bike for me. The VF is a great bike, but daily driving is not really how I want to use her any longer. She's reliable and comfortable, but it's going to be more of a weekend fun ride bike now.

So the wife says she's not interested in anything that doesn't have floor boards, back rest and arm rests for the passenger.

That pretty much narrows the field down to one option:

    Goldwing.

Oddly enough, it actually kind of appeals to me....am I getting old?

Does anyone use one as daily transport?

Gotta do some serious saving before I but one of those though....

    Yes.

    Two options:
    A. Ditch manhood and get a fat, lazy mans bike.
    B. Ditch the wife and upgrade to a newer model.

Maybe get her, her own "comfortable" bike, that might change her mind, I know a few ladies that really enjoy their smaller (600cc or so) cruiser style bikes. Then you wouldn't have to go goldwing.

I kinda like the Goldwings, myself, although I don't see me departing from the VFR. My wife won't even SIT on my VFR, but she likes the 'Wing.

    Apparently I fit Ghost's description "A" above. :)

I don't have one, but there's nothing wrong with a Goldwing. They handle well and can take you as far as you care to go in great comfort.
But how about a BMW R1200RT? That's a nice bike with excellent passenger accomodations. And a good rider can keep up with much sportier bikes on a twisty road. Quite a bit lighter than the 'wing as well.

    Cheers!

    Craig

One of my other bikes is a Valkyrie Interstate.I really do enjoy riding that bike.It like a "bad boy" brother of the Wing.I like bikes that not everyone has along with dependability of course. It's not as polished as the Wing but has that great reliability.
I'm sure that the Gold Wing Rider's clubs have good forums but I know that the Valkyrie Rider's forums are very suportive and helpful-great forum.
The demographics are quite different from the Veefer Forums. They are typically older and more "conservative", but helpful nonetheless.

I see myself going this direction as well. I about 10 years or so. Still working on talking the wife into it, and that will prolly take all of the 10 years.

The Goldwing is a nice ride. I have a friend that bought an 83 model and he loves it. It came with just about everything he wanted as far as add-ons go, and the price was in line with KBB value so he snatched it up.

They went to Myrtle Beach earlier this month, about a 600 mile ride one way. His wife loves it!

On a side note, my friend is thinking of getting another bike to ride to work. The Wing is pretty heavy and he would like something less bulky for that ride.

I just can't get past the fact that if I need that much comfort and convenience I'd rather be in my car.

I have an old GoldWing that I use for commuting and touring sometimes in the winter in NYC. My GoldWing is an 83 Aspencade GS1100 and yeah it is heavy. On the downside you will not be whitelining much or at all. The GoldWing is good on open road but more work in slow moving and stalled/stop and go traffic. Finding a parking spot is harder and my GoldWing does not have electric reverse - so I have to be careful where and how I park the bike. Great part for me about using my Goldwing the comfort and the accessories such as radio and CD player. Really great bike for touring with air suspension. Quite a few of the ladies I date like the GoldWIng and do not like riding on anything else as a passenger because of the air suspension and storage area on the GoldWing.

Drewl. I think you should count on a bit more than 10 years for yourself. Otherwise I should b going backwards.
