Pretty smart techniques there. Must watch again.
Towards the end, stuck up on the side of the hill...Front Brake, handlebars back and forth, down he is. Skills for any moto in a pickle.

Would be awesome to go to one of their schools.
Thanks for sharing. ADV is next for me, so very useful.

Not the greatest audio for sure and of course it was a BMW sponsored presentation geared for a live audience.

Pretty good info for those of us who are not the great fast guys we think we are.

Oh well, back to more than a few vids seen here that have dubbed in headbanger tunes and endless in focus footage of various colors of traffic lines for as much as a half hour of thrilling entertainment.

Oh Shit, does this mean I have a short attention span?

If we're talking ADV, Cycle World did a 4 bike comparison. BMW R1200GS, KTM 1290 Adventure, Ducati Multistrada Enduro and last but not least the Honda Africa Twin..

My experience has been...you don't really want to be pushing a 300 pound bike, let alone, a 500 pound bike around on anything other than fire roads. They basically suck off road. Now, if you want to just hit some fire roads, roll over a few rocks, and take social media pictures of you in the great outdoors, looking the part of a Dakar racer, they are pretty good for that and I wouldn't knock it.

Having ridden the AT, I just couldn't see myself having much fun at semi serious offroad speeds. It felt like it was hinged in the middle and the suspension wasn't liking it very much. It wasn't horrible, but the more you twisted the throttle and the rougher it got, the closer you got to horrible. But, to be fair, there is no such thing as a swiss army knife motorcycle. For me, I really would like to try out the new CRF450RX. Rewind the stator, stick a Baja designs headlight on it and a dual sport kit and you could get it registered in any place except Commie, whoops, California.

For the money a DR 650 is hard to beat. Throw about $900.00 more into the suspension and a pipe, rejet and airbox mod, new bars and riser and bash plate and it is a fun all around bike. I ride dirt on a 200 lb CR 250 and the DR does feel like a pig in comparison but a nimble little pig at just over 300 lbs. I have taken it on some crazy back woods rides that pushed it to the limit and beyond a few times. You can pick up one in excellent shape low miles sub 4k. Would I rather have a KTM 609 enduro? Sure but I can have the DR for less than 1/2 the price. It is also about bullet proof, you can beat the snot out of them.

I skipped through it watching bits. Some of the most boring off-road I have seen. Good tips for a beginner I suppose. That course is not what I'd call off road, though. ToeCutter was riding his FJR on worse roads with me in Mexico a week or two ago.

All the ads keep crashing my browser on this one so I gave up trying to watch. I really hate when websites use multimedia bandwidth hogging ads. Makes me want to drop my subscription to their paper magazine.

I think it may improve sales for not only CW but for motorcycles as well, finally allowing gay dudes to review bikes.

I was trying to find a way to just link the video but not being at home and being on my iPad, the link to the page was the best I could do at the moment. I guess now that magazines are being posted on the internet they are finding was to generate revenue, hence all the ads. This is similar to some of the FB post which lure you in with some sort of tag line but when you click on the post it's a series of 'next' buttons that have multiple ads on each "next page" you hit!

The take away of this video is that as much as one wants to believe that these new ADV bikes are the end all beat all and think they can take on even the most challenging off road course, they alas cannot do it all! I think the test riders were just trying to prove that point. The one thing that was cool to see is that even a pro could not make these bikes do any better. Another good thing to see is that they did hold up pretty well!

Man, I figure when the first thing they show you is how to pick up your pig of a dirt bike, then it's too damned big. Yeah, let's see him get that thing upright when it's laying downhill. Thanks, but I'll take a dirt bike I can pick up when I drop it.

They should have had that thing laying down the hill and watch him put it back upright.
