update: all good, shity voltmeters to blame...

So i installed the new rr, stator, and vfrness last weekend. ive been looking foward do driving my bike all fucking week and i go to test my bike with the volt meter. 14.5 volts off. 15 at idle and 18 fucking volts at 6000! wtf! im so sick of this shit. so i guess that brand new accel rr i bought and waited 2 months for is bogus.

When I was having similar issues of my own I also considered many aftermarket solutions. Of course the dealership suggested that when it comes to electrical, I buy OEM only. I was obviously skeptical accepting that advice so I did some very in depth research by way of getting as many experiences as possible from other riders, both through the groups that I ride with and online accounts from several sites. I did, eventually, end up using all OEM and I'm glad that I did. Knowing what you have been through with your machine and aftermarket parts and the similarities that it shares with numerous experiences that others have shared with me, I would have to say that aftermarket electrical seems a waste of time and money; even after I consider the fact that Hondas parts aren't ideal either.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your continued issues. I hope you get it all sorted soon.

It sounds to me like your volt meter is not accurate. your 12 volt battery should not have 14.5 volts at rest. 12.7 to 13.2 sounds right at rest.

yeah i came to that conclusion too. so i took the volt meter to test out my explorer. and it was showing 14 off and 16 volts revved up.so at that point i was pretty sure that the volt meter was shot or low on batteries. so i drove of to a buddy of mine's house down the street. he does a lot of lighting and contracting work and assured me that his meter was top notch, it was showing about the same(some ridiculous numbers 16 volts off and 17 at 6 grand). so we plugged it into his harley, which show'd normal 12-14 voltage.
so i headed back over to the parents house. when i got there my pops said that he just changed out the battery in the meter and double checked it, plugging it in to his truck which showed 12.8 off and about 14 on...
then we gave it another try on my bike. we got 13 volts bike off, 13.30 volts at idle, and 13.50 volts at 6 grand. really weird numbers. im gonna sleep on it and test every thing out again tomorrow before i start pulling panels off and disassembling...

either i got really bad luck with voltmeters or electrical systems. lol
it doesn't make too much since to me. i would think at 18 volts id be blowing fuses, melting electrical connections, and frying batteries by now...

I agree with DGW, and your results seem to verify it. Unless things have changed drastically, a fully charged battery is 2.2 volts per cell (or 13.2 for a "12 volt" battery), and they don't stay that way for very long. Generally, they settle out to about 12.6 to 12.8 volts in a short amount of time (a few hours, maybe). So it sounds like a few voltmeters are suspect here.

FWIW, I've seen more than a few voltmeters that seem to work fine in AC mode but get wonky in DC mode (and/or resistance mode). Sometimes it's the probes, and sometimes the selector switch needs to be moved back and forth a few times to clean the internal contacts. And sometimes it's the meter not reading properly, period.

Your last test indicates that everything seems to be in order. It would be interesting to use your meter on your Dad's truck to see what it says.

tested every thing this morning and everything seems to be a-okay. it show'd 12.8 before start up. 14ish at idle, and 15ish at 6 grand. out of 3 voltmeters, a $10 generic. and 2 four hundred dollar industrial meters... seems like the only one worth a shit is my dads 10 dollar one with fresh batteries. lol
im not even gonna bother telling my buddy his voltmeters are garbage. hes one of those huge rednecks that can never do wrong. he'd rather conger up some elaborate plot on my new electrical system needing to be broken in or ecu needing to relearn itself etc., before he'd come to grips that he cant maintain his equipment properly... lol
hopefully im done fucking with the veefer for a while lol

After having charging issues earlier this summer, I use this $5 tool from China Freight. I changed one of the ends so it will plug into my battery tender plug. When the bike is off, it shows the status of the battery, then when idling and reving up, the LEDs light up further up the scale to show how much charge is happening. I slip the unit into the clear cover on my tank bag so it's easily visible while riding. $5 peace of mind for you until it earns your trust again.

yeah definetely considering something along those lines now... i got that accessory wire coming out of the vfrness by the rr. i want to tap into that and place some kinda voltage read out within a few inches of that. i was thinking bout one of these:
