About to buy an '02 with 7300 miles on it. Looks like the oil needs changed and no idea when the brake fluid and coolant were changed last (2-owner bike). So I'm going to change oil/brake fluid/coolant as soon as the inspection of the bike as a whole looks like the bike is a good bike. So my questions: 1) Should I be concerned about either the braking or coolant systems? I'm concerned about corrosion, etc. from them not being changed/flushed. Will an inspection by the local Honda shop turn up any issues if either has any, or is that a ticking time bomb that can't be inspected? 2) Assuming this is common to let those systems go unattended to (not that it's right), any ideas on what it might cost to service both? 3) As I said I'm going to have an inspection done at the same time (and prior to the "service" work). Should I expect some economy of scale by having the inspection, oil change, brake fluid change, and coolant change all at the same time (i.e. remove fairings once)? Just trying to figure out of this is going to be a $500ish service or make me cry by being a $1000 service. Thanks! -John
Service You must assume nothing has been done.Go over your bike and bring it up to date on all your service concerns and start out on a fresh page. You will sleep better when done.
No doubt. I was unclear and have edited my original post. I am doing all this work. I'm just wondering about if the systems are likely compromised if they've gone years without flushing their fluids. I'm also curious to know what servicing them and the oil might run (I think shop rates in my town are $60 per hour).
