Hello to all. New/new to me 2007 VFR800 (RWB) owner. Guessing this has been brought up but can't find any info on it. My 2007 has 300 miles on it. Yes, 300...purchased new (first & only owner still had it in its Honda crate) in 2011, had it ridden home, and has sat in my garage until this year. Long story but yes. Had a professional mechanic get it up and running "safely" to include checking it over. Just noticed a "slight rattling" kind of noise coming from the lower part of the bike (not sure if it is more left or right side). I believe it's related to the clutch...because when I disengage the clutch (pull the clutch lever in)...the noise lessons. Almost goes away... you can still hear it but much more quiet. Then when the clutch is engaged again (clutch lever released)...it gets louder. This noise is not there when the bike is "cold". I notice it when I return from a ride. The bike is in neutral reference the above. I have not tested it while in gear yet or tried to pinpoint it further. I was gonna do so...but got a bug up my backside & decided to fire off this question. Any questions/comments/imput would be greatly appreciated. Hoping this is "normal" and I'm just overconcerned...considering the bike only has 300 miles on it. BTW...love the bike and many of the various generations of VFRs. Thank you in advance, Woj.
Hi Woj and Welcome to the Madhouse. What can I say - RWB 6th Gen VFRs are rare enough let alone anyone snagging one now with just 300 miles. I suspect that I am not alone in looking forward to seeing pictures of your almost brand new VFR. (it is easy click the "Upload a File" link and follow prompts to select an image(s) from your computer then use "More Options" to decide how to display them. As for the noise - as you have already had a professional service the motorbike, I feel sure most of the more obvious candidates for unusual noise (low oil) can be discounted. Amusingly 2 years back I purchased a Triumph Street Triple with just 700 miles only to have COVID lock-down europe with the bike still in the UK and me in France. Only recently I managed to get it transferred and finally registered in France and indeed it was not until last week that I managed to see the mileometer creep past 800. The weird bit is that while I was very familiar with the noises made by my previous 675 Street Triple over many years of use I realised that I am still a long way off learning what noises are normal with the new one. I have a feeling that with properly prepared nearly new bike, it is probably not worthwhile over thinking things at this stage. Like it or not all bikes make some noises which can take time for us to get used to. At this stage I guess you may be simply hearing a 20 year old clutch and gear box assembly finally bedding in. Even so it might be worthwhile making a short Youtube video of the bike with the engine starting from cold and then after returning from a ride when the noise is apparent. Then post a link to the video here and hopefully this will allow others to try and identify the source of the noise and give you steer as to whether it is really something of concern. In the meantime take it easy with that rare beastie and have fun! SkiMad
