So my registration for my bike was 65 bucks. just got reg for my car and its 46 bucks. I can see the justification for this seeing how inspection is so much more time consuming on a bike... oh wait thats not it. Maybe because they have been aggressively cleaning the salt and filling the potholes... nope thats not it either. It might be paying for the paving of lanes over a year of which they grate the road for months and then pave one lane 1ft higher than the next so i cant get in it. Could it be because everyone switched to motorcycles as their primary mode of transportation and they are losing money? nah still 1:20 ratio. Perhaps it pays for all those "Watch for motorcycle" stickers which are obviously extremely effective at stopping everyone from talking on their cell phones when changing lanes.

    Thanks NJ

You would puke if you knew what we get raped for registration in The Peoples Republic of California. Could only wish to register a bike that cheap. I have been bent over to the tune of $1200 in registration fee's this year for my cars and bikes.

And I was pissed when VT bike registration jumped from $38 to $41 a year... Guess I'm lucky.

Must be because we can't ride from October to April.

I've been to CA a few times, but not recently. What are your tolls like out there?

In Jersey, we have tolls everywhere. They've actually done a way with a few, but there are still tolls all over the place. Me personally - I'd gladly pay increase registration fees on any/all of my vehicles in order to eliminate some of the tolls.

I don't know if NJ has technically done away with the tolls. They doubled them up in one direction and got rid of the booths in the other... So while yes, they have removed toll booths, a person is still paying the same amount ( that is if they are making a round trip, if they are just going the one way with the booth, they get to pay double, if they go the other way it is free - until the next country that is ( on the Parkway )). At least the ones that I have seen.

Correct Barley - I suppose when I said they've "done away with some" that's not accurate. They did exactly what you said - removed a particular toll booth, but increased the toll at the next place.

Even with that, I still think we have an inordinate amount of tolls.

So it is cheap there then. $1261.00 licencing and insurance fees for my bike alone. And I have a fifth wheel, a truck and a car to pay for after that. By time all is said and done, I am into them for about 4 grand, each and every fuggen year.

NY used to charge $14/year for the motorcycle reg. So, being the state is almost bankrupt, it was raised to $42.50/yr for residents living in areas where metropolitan transportation was available (to subsidize the transportation system).

PA is $36.00 for a cage and $18.00 for a motorcycle. Luckily our legislators are by and large as dumb as a stump and can barely read, otherwise they might get some ideas from NJ and other similar stealer-states.

They're not as dumb as you think.

In CT, there's registration and annual vehicle tax - it should go down every year as the vehicle depreciates, but they always use the 'high end' of the assessment value range. Then they factor it with a mille rate depending on your town and county. And whabam! $00 plus / year for a 10 year old motorcycle! I maintain my bike registration in NYS b/c it's cheaper overall.

I am amazed by all this. Here in Alberta the registration for a car is $70.45......a bike only costs $45.45.
