    Greetings ladies and gents,

I've been motorcycling for a while but it has not been until recently that the Interceptors have caught my eye. My current bike is a 1972 Triumph so without a doubt any of the Interceptors will offer me better reliability, handling, and power. However, my question for you guys is what would my best entry model be? I would like to stay within a range of $1500-$3000, obviously willing to pay more to get more. Which generation would would you give your recommendation to? What are some of the differences between the early generations that would have the greatest impact on me? I'm not looking for a bike to take to the track or race. Just something fun and sporty that I can take out on country roads during the weekend.

    Thanks for the advice,
    Matt

Hi and welcome to the group. Personnaly, I love my 93 model. I would think just about any year would be a good entry, it just depends on what you want. do you want chain driven cams or gear driven? Carbs, or Fuel Injection? Some of the early models, the 83-85 VF ones (1st Ge), had some oiling issues with the cam or cam chains. More info can be found be searching the forums as I am no expert on those year models. The 02 and up models (6th Gen) returned to the chain driven cams, but the oiling issue has long been resolved. Others will have their opinions and are fully entitled to them. Like I said, I love my 93 model (3rd Gen). It's comfortable and reliable (as are the others). Depending on any mods you may want to do, such as aftermarket exhaust, you may want to consider something no older than 94 since aftermartket parts are hard to find for earlier models, though there still are some available, it just takes a lot of hunting.

welcome to the club. with the investment your listing, you are probably going for a 4th gen. You might occasionally find a 5th gen for that, but usually not. You might be hard pressed to find a 4th gen for that, too, though except that it's winter right now. The 5th gen gets you fuel injection and linked brakes and a little different styling and I think that's when they became 800 instead of 750. I got a 5th gen (1998) and I have been very pleased with it. They usually cost 3500-4500 around here. I know of one locally for $4400 right now and one at the dealer for over 5k. Were I you, I would get as new as I could afford to. They are all good.
