    Hi All

Been lurking on your (our) forum for a while and find it very informative.

My previous bike was a BMW F650GS. When the Bavarians announched the launch of their BMW F800ST, I put down my order. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, it will not be available in my country till March 2007. I gave in to group pressure and are now the proud owner of a brand new VFR 800. We are a biker family... Husband - BMW K1200S & CBR1000RR6 Fireblade - Two sons each with their own CBR1000RR6 Blades..... hence the group pressure.

I have only done 1000km's on the Viffer :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: and upto now, I'm still smiling. Here is my beautiful machine :

Looking forward to interact with you

Hey mermaid. Welcome to the group. I must say, I am not a big fan of red, but if I had to have red, it wold be the same color as yours. Beautiful bike. :thumb:

I'm sure BMW makes quality machines but I do think you'll enjoy the VFR more. I've ridden a few BMW's but they gave more more of an impression of "operating" a piece of machinery. A VFR makes you feel like you're part of the bike.

I like that shade of red...

    KC-10 FE out...

Yip we have some good roads, unfortunately here are some bad - very bad - ones as well. Luckily around where I live, most of the roads are acceptable to good.

One can easily do a breakfast run of 200km + on good roads. We tour a fair bit and with some planning, excellent roads can be found

I thought white was the fastest since you hardly see them unless they are standing still.

Good choice of motorcycle, think you'll find more " real world " practical than your Sons Blade's.

There must be some great Roads in SA, it seem like every second new bike these days is launched from South Africa's Western Cape.

    2 suggestions for your VFR:

    1) upgrade your tyres to Pilot Powers for a handling lift.

    and

    2) get some Staintunes to let the v4 Growl out.

You are correct, the Western Cape is renown for it's good roads and scenic landscape.

With reference to the launches - yes we are lucky and deservedly so, although it did help that the main BMW Motorrad man is an ex South African.

Unfortunately the Western Cape is more than 1000 km's from us. (visit there every year though but have not been there with the Viffer)

I have not push the bike hard in the twisties as yet, but so far the Metzelers did not disappoint. I'l see how it goes.

Regarding the sound - yes it lack some authority and at times I found myself in a wrong gear due to the lack of engine sound. However, I kind of like the cosmetics of the stock pipes.
Furthermore, I'm allergic to makeovers - I have just live through one with my husbands bike (see http://www.bmwk1200s.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3662&sid=d6bf8590a4a849e41ecdacf5d47a78bc for those interested)

H'mmm listen to this short clip I shot a little while ago with headphones, in your case specifically the 2nd last VFR a Red VTec with aftermarket exhaust ( a Micron ) and the last a Blue VTec with Standard exhaust an see if you can shift your viewpoint a little ?

Whow! Simply beautiful. You have now started something... Thanks for the links.

Maybe you will understand now why I am hesitant to start with another project.

Do you happen to know what kind of exhaust the first two bikes that went by in that video are running? The first was was a greenish-blue with a hard plastic Givi style trunk & the next was red with a big black tail bag. They sounded like music to me...

The Leading on has a Staintunes Low mount and the Red Klingon a Staintunes High Mount, both have Spuds out and are worn in.

This is another little Vid I took of 2 Gen4's heading up Mac Pass near Sydney, the leading Red VFR has a High mount Staintune, the 2nd black a full Race system.

I'm new to the VFR world and for that matter any high tech motorcycle. I've been riding the same 1972 Yamaha 650 since 1975. I've just recently purchased a like new 04 Interceptor and I'm just amazed at the technology. I do a lot of freeway riding and this bike is just fantastic at the job, and when the fancy strikes me I can take it to the San Gabriel mountains and pretend I'm fast! It is a great machine, but how in the heck do you change a burned out headling bulb? Do I have to take the fairings apart? Thanks from a newbie.
