    into here. http://vfrworld.com/forums/introductions/30185-hello-all-new-beaterbike.html#post256158

I recently got a 86 vf500 on the cheap, the previous owner decided to mess around with the carbs and then not put them pack together. this is the first time i've worked on a V4 so i need just a little help. i've gotten it to the point where it easy starts up with no problem but it idles all the way at 7-8K!, i know there must be a big vacuum leak but where? there is a piece that is currently not installed, it's two plastic T-lines that look like the go between the carbs, join and then go elsewhere but i don't know where they hook up, i don't see a fitting anywhere. hopefully these are my vacuum leaks?

That's not your vacuum leak. The only leaks that would cause an idle problem would be between the engine and the throttle plate, or something that gets vecuum from in front of the throttle plate through internal passages.

those mystery t fittings go to the plate the carbs bolt up to i think. did you bench sync the carbs? i recently rebuilt mine and read the shop manual wrong so i synced them but once you fired it up it ran up to about 4k, pulled them back off and dialed down the idle screws and works like a charm now

yea i put a spring in the wrong place runs great now! only problem is don't have the piece between the idle screw and the throttle body linkage. anybody know where i can get one? Honda doesn't sell it. i don't have an extra fitting on the aluminum bowl that the carbs bolt to for those 2 T lines, any harm in never installing them? what do they do?

that t fitting might go to the top between the carbs and be a breather.
as far as the high idle either your idle screw is set to high or your air ways might be blocked.
    hope this helps.
