Hi All, new to the VFR forum but not to motorcycle forums. I was previously active on the RoadStar Warrior forum and most recently on the CBR1000RR site.
On a whim, after doing a little research, I rode my ’08 CBR to a Honda dealer in Denver and rode home with a new VFR Deluxe edition in red. I live in Keystone CO, so my trip home covered city streets, I-70, Clear Creek canyon and Loveland Pass.

    Here are my initial observations:

Style: Hands down the VFR has more curb appeal. (Maybe I was tiring of the CBR)

Around town riding: VFR handles much better at slower speeds.

Canyon riding: VFR seems more nimble even though it weighs 100 lbs. more than the CBR. I’ll be faster and not have to work as hard on the VFR. A 2” longer wheelbase and wider bars seems to help.

Interstate riding: CBR is smoother and quieter at 75+. The VFR delivers more wind turbulence and noise at highway speeds. I’ll have to wear my earplugs more often. Maybe a different windscreen will help. (Any suggestions?)

Power and acceleration: CBR, no question. It has amazing low end torque and linear acceleration. Zero to 80mph in about five seconds, in 1st gear. I’ll miss that some. The VFR is a fast motorcycle, just not scary fast.

Braking: Seems about the same so far. I haven’t really tested the VFR in a panic type stop yet as the dealer suggested a break in period for the pads.

    VFR plusses:

Fuel gauge, ambient temp indicator, heated grips, gear indicator, metal fuel tank (for my magnetic tank bag), traction control (I’ve never had this before, if it gets in the way I’ll just turn it off), ABS (never had this either, glad that it’s not linked) self-cancelling turn signals, better mirrors, easy rear preload adjustment.

    VFR distractions:

Chain adjustment, never had a bike that required dealer adjustment of the chain. (the manual says so). Any forum posts on this?

Going riding now. Have to get the suspension dialed in.

First off Congratulations and Welcome to The World! As far as chain adjustments, unless they are talking about cam chain, the previous generations were self serviceable, just need the spanner that allows you to rotate the rear hub cam. Maybe the new one doesn't come with the spanner in the tool kit, that's about the only reason I could think of. Oh, pics of your new ride would be nice!

    Cheers!
