In my cbr i always used Rotella T6 5w-40 synthetic, is that safe to use in these bikes as well?

Sweet! I'm just a few hours North of you in Manitoba! (GO JETS GO!!!) :p

10W40 is what you want in your bike ... dino or or semi-synthetic seem to be the most popular choices I believe - some people claim to have some clutch slippage or clunky shifting with full synthetic. I haven't encountered it myself yet - but I haven't really tested either to compare.

There is no problem with full synthetics!!! It is a scientifically engineered oil without all the unwanted elements and polymers that are needed to make dino oil multi-viscosity.

I ran Amsoil full synthetic in both my 2003 and now in my new 2014.

I don't disagree ... I am currently running Mobil 1 full synthetic, but I'm looking to switch to Castrol Synthetic.

An 18 year old bike with just 8500 miles. That took me 2 months when I first got mine. Nice score. Love that colour too.

I have used Motul Semi Synthetic since new on my bike back in 2006. A couple years ago, I switched to Rotella T6 5W 40 really just because it is so much cheaper and more readily available. You can get it on Sundays at Wallyworld. For some reason here in BC, bike shops are closed Sundays and Mondays. I haven't noticed any problems I can attribute to this oil. This included a 5 week 8 K mile trip and a 3 week 5K mile trip. I had stator problems on the trips but I can't attribute that to the oil. More like age for the first stator and a poor after market stator for the second.

I can also use the same oil in my diesel truck and my wife and son's Honda Civics so I don't have a whole pile of different oils kicking around. Believe it or not, the Civic uses the same oil filter as the VFR too.

BTW, my odo is sitting at 116,500 miles right now. All of them mine or in my presence.
