Never ridden one, yet I picked up an 85 1000r in a trade. Clean title, The guy sold off the body pieces but kept the engine in tact and was going to use it for a sand rail project. It showed good compression, so i thought would be a worthy project. So, I found a minty VF 1000 F(only 14K miles) on ebay with the motor dismantled due to a bad transmission. Only paid $600 for that with the intention of putting the 85R motor into the 84 frame. Then I discovered it was not a direct fit. So.... I decided the 84 was too clean to modify the frame and I would build them both. Then a few weeks ago, on a whim I hit VF1000r on the local Craigslist and low and behold there was an 86 VF1000r for sale complete but no title! It also has two motors included. the guy picked up a motor with only 15k miles. The body pieces are all good condition, but not the original paint. Chewed him down to $600 from $800. He could have pieced out for twice that I'm sure. So, to make a long story short I now have 3 builders with 4 motors and tons of good parts to choose from. Great winter projects, I bought manuals and complete gasket kits for both bikes and will probably get Dave Dodges oil and tranny upgrade mods. Any other advice before I get started on these builds? I will attatch pics later. Thanks, and I am excited to get started.

I have a pet Unicorn named Ralph. He has magical powers and can fly but nobody believes me because I've never posted pictures of him.

Sounds like you're on tract and welcome. Check vfrd.com, member vf1000rs, who fit the R motor in the F frame and was documenting the process.
