Well, I just got home on my new toy, an Interceptor 500. I don't even know the year, I just traded it from a friend for my laptop. It runs, but it has a crazy high idle (around 6k warmed up), starts poorly, has 24k miles, loses a little coolant and oil slowly, and is in pretty rough shape... But hey, I hated the laptop (don't buy HP) and I don't mind working on the interceptor seeing as I've got a 74 Honda CB125 to cruise around on in the meantime (picked it up cheap, got it running, 80+ MPG ~ diggin it).

So I'm going to find out more about it, get it idling good, and then over the winter I'll take care of the oil and coolant, paint it, maybe replace the tank, etc.

Plans for it so far are: Get it running well, slap on a V&H exhaust (or equivalent, if no V&H for this bike), high flow intake, rejet the carbs, paint it, change the gearing for improved gas mileage, put on some good tires, and then see what else I can do to it :)

Don't paint it. That there is a classic. Nice trade.

Awesome find!!!! Man I've got a crappy laptop sitting at the house that I would more than gladly trade for any halfway decent bike, let alone a RWB Interceptor!!! Lucky, just lucky. Good luck sorting it out, it will be a blast all the way, even through tough times.

Man... I did some reading up on this bike, and I'm thinking I'll be happy just to get it running well and enjoy it for a while. Eventually, I'd really like to trade it for a Suzuki GS500E (my second and favorite bike thus far ~ Interceptor is my 5th bike). I know the Interceptor is faster, but I liked everything about the GS500.

I was riding it for the first time at night, so I didn't notice that the choke was open  hence the high idle. With the choke closed, it idles too low, and will die quickly at a stop. So I'm going to tune up the carbs, find out how to sync them properly, and that should take care of that. I'm not planning on investing too much $$ in this bike, because I read they are high maintenance with rare parts :frown: And this bike was not well taken care of...
