Though it was time for me to speak out and say a few words.

Have a 1984 VF1000R that is semi retired for for the moment. Bought a 93 900SS Ducati 2 years ago so the rego for the Honda was canceled to same a few hundred dollars.

Have had the VF for near on 16 years now and has traveled 66,000 kilometres. Used far too much oil from the day I bought it (about 35000klms) so I eventually got around to doing the engine. Looked like number 3 had leaned out and badly scored the liner but at least now it is oil tight. Balance pipe for teh exhaust rusted away so I tracked down a system for it. But for the life of me I cannot remember who it was made by but they said they used to make them for the Australian Honda Superbikes - 2 into 1 high right/low left weirdness but it sounds nice.

Only other changes are progressive fork springs and a BiTurbo rear shock that I have since removed. Always seemed to be too harsh for me. As I had trouble finding a manual for it I bought the manual on fiche from Honda and was offered the parts manual as well. Have both and the parts manual is worth it's weight in gold. Lists bearing and seal sizes so I can shop elsewhere for some parts and at Honda for those with weird sizes.

But the old girl still goes like the clappers. Have kept a copy of Motorcycle News (English) with the write-up of the release in South Africa and they topped out at 160mph. It is rumoured that they "may" still do an easy 150mph.

And I've been thinking of my old 83 VF750F. Might have to see it it's still alive as that was a nice ride too. Upset a few GSX1100s in it's day. Still have the brochure and a few magazines for that too.
