    Hello everyone.
Just traded my 02 R6 for an 03 VFR this weekend (I'm getting old and looking for more comfort). Have had two VFR's in the past and knew this was a good move. I have a question that I would not even know where to look for the answer. The speedo display on the bike was broken (just a black smudge), replaced it with another unit, now the problem: the original odomiter read 17xx miles, the replacement reads 38xxx miles. Is there any way to fix the odomiter (leagly) to read the right mileage?

Call the nearest Honda dealership & see if they can reset the odometer, if they say they can't, then find a shop that rebuilds clusters & see if they are able to. I know it can be done for cages so it should be able to be done on a bike.

    Welcome to VFRWorld.

In the 6th Gen section of the forum you will find loads of pertinent information about your new VFR. As its an early 6th Gen model, its definitely worth reading up on the wiring harness/RR issues and also checking to see whether it should have been covered by a recall.

As for replacing the broken odometer I am pretty sure that Honda dealerships have digital equipment which is able to adjust the replacement odometer reading to match the original, as they obviously need that capability to transfer data over to a new unit if they need to replace faulty/smashed units. However Honda will need you to produce various documents to demonstrate you own the bike and a receipt to prove where you sourced the replacement odometer. They will also need you to bring in the broken odometer you took off the bike so they can download the actual mileage data and transfer it to the replacement unit you have obtained. I bet that won't be cheap but its worth checking how much they will charge, as they will probably be able to do it on the spot.

Alternatively if you are happy posting stuff - this company in the USA may be able to adjust the odometer readings for you - Bluegauges.com - Mileage Correction

There may be other firms doing this in you area - so it may be worth enquiring at your local motorbike shop.

Whilst third party firms may be cheaper than asking Honda to do it, I suspect most legitimate firms will insist you to send them various bits of documentation to prove your title to the bike and also post them the broken unit and the replacement unit to do the data transfer. Obviously while they are resetting the readings, you won't be able to ride you bike.

Anyway good luck with the new bike and post up some photos!

    Good luck

Thanks for the info. Contacted the two closest Honda dealers and was told (by both) that there was nothing that could be done short of buying another cluster with lower mileage on it.

mine is off also because I swapped to a lower mileage engine, but I just figured what the hell... I rather not spend the dough I think they would want to get it all back to matching. I could buy new tires for that.

Sounds more like the dealers just don't want to do it for you as they did not sell you a replacement gauge. At least you have one other solution to the problem. Good luck and let us know how you get on - especially if you do find someone providing good service its really helpful to pass on the news to the rest of the forum.

O.K. Here it is. Bone stock and the only thing I plan on doing is a re valve and heavier spring on rear shock, rebuild front with heavier single rate springs (boring huh?). After riding primarily sport bikes for the last 20 years, this bike rides like a dream. 03 VFR.jpg

Looking good. Just add a coat of laser veil g4 and the VFR will not disappoint.

Thank you for the information on bluegauges.com. Sent my gauges to New York last night. Scott Woodruff was very helpfull, and for $55 my problem was solved. Anyone needing mileage correction (broken gauges, replaced, etc.) this is the place to contact. Thanks again.
