    Good Day to all,

Picked up a flat black 04 last April with just under 5K (That's kms!) - previous owner had big plans that were thwarted due to breeding (Mrs. didn't want to go with him anymore). Sat in storage for three seasons (We call them that up here in Ontario, no such thing as a riding year...yet...Global Warming?). His loss was my gain, all the extras, bags, box, touring screen etc. Loved it last year, looking forward to more fun this Summer. Need to figure out why the battery isn't holding the charge - already learned plenty from this site today with regards to R/R issues, battery problems and how to change the clock! So thanks to all the dedicated riders here.

    Cheers

    Dan

Put it on a 2 amp charge for a whole day (24 hours), then load test it.

    Thanks fellas,

As far as I know, it's the original battery. I had no problems with the bike last year, I wasn't riding every day but I never had a problem starting, even if it had been sitting for a week. Over the Winter I neglected to put the battery on a 2A trickle charge, (My other bike never seemed to mind the long winter and always started fine without any maintenance), my bad as the battery fully discharged. I put it on a slow charge, I think it took about 24 hours to show fully charged, popped it back in and the bike started up no problem. It needed another boost for a couple of hours after three weeks, then I took it out for a spin on Saturday for about 45 minutes, first ride of the season. When I got back there was enough juice to turn the crank a couple of times but not enough to fire. Still had all the electrics working - I'm guessing in letting the battery drain completely over the Winter it's now an ex-battery. New battery time. Newbie mistake, won't happen again. (My other bike has a kick-starter too - very handy)

    Thanks again for the feedback
