This is my first vfr. I was into dsm but was sinking to much money into them so I decided to go a different way in my vehicle choice. I traded a not running tore apart 93 eclipse for my 86 vfr 750. Has 21k miles a few scuffs on the plastics and carbs need rebuilt. I work at a pweformance fuel systems shop so that is nothing for me to do. I'm wanting to keep it mostly stock and use it for fun suer rides through the mountains and back and forth to the city 130 miles daily. What does anyone else think did I get a good deal or screw myself. Also what would be the first things I could do performance wise. I am putting a stage 1 jet kit in it andthinking about the laser exhaust. Any advice on suspension since it is 26 yr old stuff. Thanks to anyone who has any input.

Welcome!! Post more pics when you get a chance.

I'd focus more on suspension then the Engine Performance as that is definitley the weak point of the older VFR's.

You can do the CBR F2 wheels swap. search and you'll see what is involved.

Contact JamieDaugherty on this board or go to his site to see what rear shock he can modify for you.

What shape are the forks in? You can rebuild them with thicker fluid and springs properly set for your weight....or try to install ones from a newer bike.

Also be sure to check the valve clearances and the Cams to make sure all is good up there...dunnoh what the other owner has or has not done.

Welcome to the viffer world. As long as feel that you got a good deal, that is what matters. Get the regular maintenance done before looking in to any upgrades..

    Welcome,

Like slowbird said, I would focus on the suspension. i don't think I would even waste the money on a jet kit IMO.

Enjoy tah thing and get out and ride.

I'm thinking about the hagon mono shock from wemoto.com. And performance wise I'm meaning suspension and exhaust. I seen and herd about a laser carbon fiber exhaust but would I be able to just use a slip on exhaust and CNC some brackets.

Do you mean full system or just the pipe and slip-on can?

More like the pipes and slip on. I'm not wanting to put new headers on it but I want to keep the dual exhaust. Also are these bikes fairly comfortable when it comes to long distance rides. I got this recently and haven't hardly rode it at all and haven't done anything more then 50 miles in a day so I was wanting to see what you guys think.

    Oh nice.

I had an aftermarket set of Kerkers on my '86 VFR. They were duals and were real sweet sounding.

The headers on that generation bike are a very nice stainless and juts slapping on cans is fine.

I don't recall the laser exhaust. I'll have to search.
