I've been riding for over 9 years since i was 18. My very first bike was a honda cbr 600 f3 smokin joes. Over the years i learned all the stunts and tricks and then a few years later bought the 2001 honda 929 erion edition. I then had that bike taken away from me due to a woman. lol Since im older now i have decided to part ways with superbikes and wanted to tone down to a more relaxing ride a sport tour. I started looking at v twins and was very interested in the suzuki sv 1000s and then my interest came to the v four interceptor. I was always hearing ood things about them and then test rode a few bikes sportbikes and then a 2000 vfr. Needless to say i bought the vfr and fell in love with it. The suspensions seems great, the sound difference from an inline 4, and the rise in the bars. I felt the difference.
Well about me : I'm 27 and live in michigan just south of Detroit. I got married in 2006 in august , bought our first house, and have been wanting a bike for years again. The wife finally agreed to the bike as long as it wasnt a superbike. When i came home with the cfr she looked and said " thats not a crotch rocket?" I told her it was a sport tour in which it is. Well she's all right with it and all now. She doesn't like motorcycles due to deaths inthe family on them. She rides with me occasionally though. As for job occupation i am an aircraft mechanic for northwest airlink. So maintenance is my thing. Glad to join this website. I hope to learn and share information with others on here. Well i think ive said enough. lol

The VFR is a bike that does many things well. A "Jack of all trades" if you want to para-phrase it. While it has the relaxed ergonomics of a street bike, it has some features that makes it a good light weight touring bike, its engine.

Your VFR engine has a gear driven cam that gives it that distinct whine that resembles of a super-charger. The V-4 layout gives the engine a more linear powerband that makes acceleration very smooth. The engine has a massive cooling system using two radiators and one oil cooler is very simular to the grand daddy of tourer bikes uses (Gold Wing).

Also besides the engine, there are few other items that make long rides more achievable. It has 5.5 gallon fuel tank. Depending on how you ride, you can squeeze out 250 miles per tank (lets see a GSX-R or a CBR do that).

Another standard item worth mentioning is the link brake system. This seems to get mixed reviews, but whether you are a novice or expert rider, the link brake system does indeed work making braking safer than non-linked brake system.

OK, now I can tell you the other items of the VFR that makes this bike great. Once you get the suspension dial in, you can find yourself cornering at lean angles that no tourer bike can ever perform. Keeping up with the sport-bikes should be no problem.

The VFR is not the best choice of machine for stunts and tricks, but as a capable " all rounder " that is comfortable enough to tour to the twisties then Sporty enough to have fun with them it rules.

    !!! POP !!!
After meaning to do it for a few years finally completed my advanced riders course yesterday, found the only time CBS caused a slight issue with me mentally was the very tight walking speed witch hat manuvering using outside leaning.

Still I didn't need to dab my foot at all and didn't get singled out for further instruction so proved to myself it still very possible to do with Linked Brakes with maybe a little more clutch slip and engine revs than an equivalent non linked bike.
