Well, I'm KINDA new to the VFR... had my new (to me) 5th Gen blonde for a few months now. Put maybe 2 - 3K miles on her.

I started riding in the Army about (oh, dear Lord, shoot me now) 24 years ago, on an Army issue Kaw KLR-250. From there I bought a little standard to run up and down the central coast of Cali. - a Suz. GS550L. When I moved back east, I sold the bike and hadn't given it much thought until my buddy started putting that bug in my ear... "JIMMY!!! Let's go riding, c'mon - buy a bike!!!"

My first bike getting back into riding (about 5 years ago) was a Pre-98 Suzuki Kat 600. We got her from a guy putting her back together from the bone yard... he didn't have time for it. So, we dropped a 750 motor, jetted carbs, timing advance, 750 swingarm and shock, chopped fender, etc. (no hatin' - she was/is a great bike). But, after 4 years on her, it was time to upgrade to the VFR... a natural progression in my mind.

Sold the Kat and bought the VFR in under a week.

So far, the only mod is a slip on 2Bro can, but am looking at a Corbin or Sargent seat, risers, fender chop and doing something with vinyl - probably just some nominal stickering (my blonde is nekkid right now).

I'm on the other VFR site, too. Good people there. Looking forward to enjoying this site as well.

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the welcome. Was beginning to think my feet smell or something. :p

I'm on two other motorcycle forums: katriders.com and vfrd.com. Was a total noob when it came to wrenching on a bike. Now - 5 years later - I'm not so afraid to dig into a bike; though I'd still only put my wrenchin' skills at about the 'intermediate' level.

The kat was simple - air cooled, carbed... a little tempermental dinosaur, but easy to work on and diagnose problems. The 5th Gen VFR on the other hand is waaaay advanced for what I'm used to.

Expect that I'll ask plenty of stupid questions. The first one I hit right off the bat when I was buying her. "Hey, buddy - where's the choke??"

    I'll learn.

oh yes, my wrenchin' skills still kinda suck... I ride a 2nd gen (1987), and I find I go to my brother for help cuz he's a gearhead and knows his stuff... I worked on my old Kawi by myself, and ended up ruinin' a motor that cost $500 to replace... so I tend not to tinker as much :p

But hey, the guys on this site will offer all sorts of help (with a twist of humor more often than not) and sometimes even come help with ur stuff if they're in the neighborhood

Welcome! I love my Sargent seat. If you are thinking of some long rides, I think you will appreciate one.
