Hello all! I'm new to the VFR scene, but not to riding. I just traded my '07 DRZSM for an '02 VFR with about 21k on the clock. So far I really like the bike, but I've only put about 45 miles on it. I'm jonesing to get out and ride some more, but work comes first.

    Here's some pics:

I've pulled the left side fake can off the bike. I prefer it with the double exhaust but I just can't stand "fake" mods. It's got ABS and it's a hoot to ride. My wife and I are planning to do some 2 up riding this summer hopefully. The valves need to be done and from what I've read they aren't something I can do myself, so I'm hoping it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Welcome to the site and congrats on both the bike, and posting up pix on your first post. You belong here and you belong on this bike. Stick around.

Welcome! I understand about the fake can. I don't like it either.

When I pulled it off I found out it was full of water too, that was really funny to me.

Congrats. Looks clean and welcome to the site.

I believe the cost of valve service from the dealer runs $600 to $800, give or take.

Everyone's ass is their own, but most don't like the stock seat. You might want to keep your eye open for an aftermarket such as Corbin or Sargent, or look into having your seat custom fitted (especially for 2 up).

So it was a water bottle! :chaingun:

I use mine to stash all sorts of good stuff that makes a mess in my tank bag like chain lube! It comes in handy but I understand your position too.

Congratulation on your new ride, great job for posting picture :thumb:
Valves job will cost around $800.00 plus in Ca unless you know some small reliable shop they will be less. Only 21K I would not worry about it

An aftermarket seat is on the top of my list. My wife has a really bad back and her comfort is my main concern.

This bike actually belonged to my mechanic, I got it from the guy he sold it to. It only saw about 2500 miles in a year with that owner. I called my mechanic today and was quoted 350-400ish for the valve job, but was told it had it's 16k inspection and to bring it to him at 32k. I don't know what's ok here as far as plugging shops, but I have a local guy who's saved me a lot of money. When a piston ring failed in my DRZ @ 11k miles he had me up and running again with a high quality big bore kit for under $900.

So if someone is in my area and is curious I'd be happy to give you his info.

I'm really in awe of how well this bike is put together and how good it looks/feels. I've always had a thing for Hondas, but I grew up racing KTMs and Yamahas. I loved the DRZ, but it was more of a toy and after the piston issue I really just lost all faith in it. I think this bike is just what I needed to rekindle my love of riding. The V4 sounds so good, I really can't tell you how lucky I feel that I got this bike. It was on the very short list of serious "wants" I had when looking at trades.
