Hi there . I'm not totally new to motorcycles but haven't ridden in 6 years. I have only owned Suzuki's in the past. But now I'm in the market very low dollars though. I have found a 86 vf500f for sale localy. The owner has had it for 5 years. Carbs done 3 years ago new chain and sprockets good battery. Comes with service manual 19k on im a machinist . and have can work on or fix about anything. Anything I should look for trouble on this bike? I know parts are hard to find and how many miles can these v4s go with good maintence?? When I was ten years old my neighbor had a interceptor and I wanted one bad. So 25 years later I'm getting a chance to own one. Any help appreciated I'm going to look at the bike this afternoon.
Welcome Mikey! Show us some pix of your new to you ride. Can't tell you much about the 86 other than that was the year I got married....again. As far as your mileage goes, if it were a 6th gen (02-09) I wouldn't even blink and eye. Mine has over 100K miles and runs strong as ever. The 5th gens are doing equally well that way.
Hi and welcome to the MadHouse I can't really comment on the VF500F model other than to point you in the direction of what others have said such as this review. Motorcycle Buyers Guide - Honda VF500 Magna V30, VF500 Interceptor Seems some have encountered issues at quite low mileages, with poor maintenance being a factor. With such a high revving engine - oil and filter changes were due every 4,000 miles, which some owners overlooked. If the bike has a full service history you may be on to a winner, even if finding parts for it will be a challenge. Good luck SkiMad
