    Hi All,

    Im from Canberra, Australia.

Im a soon to be VFR800 owner, Iv loved the VFR since I first seen one, that V4 sound is amazing! iv taken a couple for a test rides here and there, but it is time for me to get a bigger bike and I will be upgrading to the VFR.

Im looking at a 6th gen, is there anything in particular that I need to look for when getting it and to have checked once I get it as I will be getting it second hand?

    Thanks

Hola Chucky! Welcome to the madness that we call VFRWorld!

As far as issues to look for, well, it depends on what year 6th gen that you are referring to. If it is pre-2006, I would ask to see if it has had the wiring harness recall done. In the states, I believe the dealers punch the VIN after the rework is complete, or you could try calling up Honda and verifying if the owner is unaware. I would assume that most of them have had the reworked by now, but then again you never know.

Other that the wiring harness recall....I would just look it over like you would any other bike. I can get a pretty good feeling of how that an owner took care of a bike based on obvious signs of neglect. Check wheel bearings for play, condition of chain, condition of tires (are they worn to the threads, chunks of rubber on sides, under fender... could tell you what type of owner...aka...burnout king), color of clutch fluid, oil level (and color of oil), fork seals, ask if forks have ever been flushed and/or rebuilt, obvious signs of neglect, et cetera...

So you are upgrading from the Suzie GS500? I am sure that you are aware that Honda has done a remodel (sans engine, and a few other items) on the new 2014 VFR800. It sorta has the looks of the 5th gen, but with the 6th gen VTEC and other attributes. Honda also offers the VFR1200, but it has a different sound than the old 800. Check for bonus items like a power commander module, racetech fork valves, upgraded shock, o2 eliminators, pair valve mod, VFRNess, off the top of my head.

    Cheers,

    :vtr2:

Hello and welcome! I have been eyeballing that new 8th gen 800 myself. Good luck with your decision!

It sure is stunning in white...red too.
