New rider that decided to take the plunge with a first gen 1984 Interceptor. Have been looking for a first bike in the 500 range due to insurance rates up here. I've also been lurking on the forums for a few months now, so knew some things to watch out for. Found this one in a small town up north. 69k, and the PO had a maintenance log (I swear the guy had autism) that had a record and the receipt for all of the parts he had bought along with the oil changes. She started up cold with about 1/4 choke, no mayo in the oil, the clutch engages smoothly at about halfway through the travel, lots of life on the brakes, maybe some tire wear, but that's about it. I can hear a slight valve tick, but it's barely noticeable and I'm not too worried about the valve spring issues these bikes are known for as I didn't see any other symptoms.

One question though, I thought that these bikes didn't have adjustable front shocks,.. so this is probably going to sound like a total noob question, but what the heck is the four position selector knob in this picture on the right front shock?

Hello and welcome amigo! Beautiful girl you snagged there...you got lucky. Squirrelman or Toecutter can answer your question about the adjuster knob on the fork. I would guess and say it is the TRAC "anti-dive" system that Honda also had on the VF1000 in the mid eighties, or a four position rebound adjuster found on the VF500's. The latter is probably more like it.

'Stucky is right, the adjuster knob is part of Honda's TRAC system that is supposed to limit front end dive under braking. Most i see are usually set at #3.

    That's a lot of miles on a 500, innit ??

Hey Chef, welcome to the WORLD and that is a nicely preserved ride you have there. May the miles (or kilometers as we Canadians would say) travelled on your bike be many and the possible issues be few and far between. All the best and keep her shiny side up. Kudos to you on posting up pics of the bike with your first post, you must have done your homework and saw all the grief you get if you don't post pics. LOL
