    Hi people,

I have had my 99 vfr just a few days and it appears that the fans don't kick in, and it just hotter and hotter in traffick and gradually cools when on the move again,

Any one got any ideas on how to fix my problem?

    Dawezey

    Welcome aboard.

Need a few more details. When you say hotter and hotter, what are your actual engine temps?
What is the ambient temp you are riding in?

The fan does not kick on until about 221*F , or 105 Celsius. Then it stays on until the temp drops to about 99* Celsius.

If you are exceeding 118-120 Celsisus, then you definitely have issues.

    Obvious things to check:
    1. Your coolant level. In the overflow, as well as the rad.
    2. Check the fuse for your fan.
    3. Try to manually spin the fan to make sure its not stuck/corroded (mine actually used to blow fuses because of this. Once I freed it, it was fine).

Give us some more details, and we can help.

If yours is similar to the 6th gen bikes, then there is a temperature switch on left side, left end of radiator that grounds fan motor to make it run, you can pull wire off that and ground it and see if fan runs, also check fuse. If neither of these solves problem, then motor is bad. Try spinning blades by hand to check bearings.

Welcome!! Lots of good information here... most of it located right after that SEARCH function.
There's another current thread going with most of your answers already in it, located here.

5th gen also has the temp switch on the left side of the radiator, making it super easy to install a fan switch.

    Hi,

The tempreture goes upto around 117 degrees then falls to about the high 90s, I don't seem to hear the fan kick in either.
I will test the things you said and come back with more info.

    Thanks guys
