Just thought I would say hi and introduce myself. I wanted to start riding and couldn't help but jump at cheap first bike. I picked up a 85 VF700 interceptor and a 85 VF500 interceptor. The 700 runs has about 26k miles on it and runs well, looks pretty decent minus the late 80s stickers on it. It starts right up and run with the choke on but bogs and dies when the throttle is hit. I am pretty sure it just needs a carb cleaning and at worse a rebuild. I have had it running enough to drive it around my yard a little bit, but the throttle is really touchy it will bog down then rev up and take off not really a good situation. The 500 on the other hand has 7k miles on it, and I am not sure how it runs as its missing the smaller of the 2 CDI boxes but the engine does turn over freely and it attempts to start. The bike though has been laid down hard and needs every bit of plastic except the 2 small side pieces and the seat. I am debating on getting the CDI box and seeing what kind of condition it really is in. It was a package deal for the 2 bikes at 600$ I figured since I don't have the paper work for the 500 I would either part it out or sell it for parts whole, and try to get the 700 into better shape. Matt
Congrats on your purchases. You could always try to fix up the 500 a bit and use it for a track bike. Be sure to read up on the first gen machines here in teh forum. There is some good info here about them. And welcome to teh group. :thumb:
That's a really great Deal!!! You should be proud of yourself:smile: I wouldn't part the 500 out, especially with that low mileage. Mine has 7500miles on her and I bought her for $250. Got her to run, but still don't know if I set the cams right. Time will tell.... And titles are easy to get. They cost at least $100 or more, but well worth it. Post some pics of the bikes. And my Interceptor wouldn't get off choke, cause all 4 of the idle jets were clogged shut!!! After that, she's smooth as a sowing machine.:treehugger: Best of luck to you and welcome LL
