New owner needs advice...

    Was here a few years ago when I owned a 6th gen but sold it for a Triumph ST 1050. Well, I'm back...something about the Interceptor makes it perfect for everything. After reading about the deferent generations I'm about to pick up a 1998 and have a couple questions. I'm good with basic mechanics but I don't know a lot so I thought I would tap into you all for some help. FYI I'm in LA on the Westside.
    It's in really nice condition with 11.5K miles. It's got some cosmetic problems that don't bother me because I plan on customizing her. My three questions are:
    Front bottom of forks have pitting and look generally crappy. Is this easily fixed by having a shop sand and paint or is this something bigger like finding new parts? I'm taking the bike to Racetech to have them sort out the front suspension the day I pick it up so I was going to have them drop in some new yellow tubes (just because I like them and I think it will look nice when I get the bike painted black). Want to make sure I know what's involved with fixing the bottom pitted parts before I take it there (unless maybe they can fix that as well...)
    The black wheels are also a little corroded. I like polished wheels better anyways so I was going to have the paint stripped and then polished. What kind of a place am I looking for that does that? Regular car auto body place or are there better options? I assume this isn't all that pricey correct?
    Last is the header pipes are rusted/corroded and look like crap. I assume I'll just have to keep looking on eBay for a decent replacement - although I did see a Delkevic SS header on eBay for about $250. The bike already has a high mount Delkevic pipe. Is this something I don't need to really worry about right now - I assume it just outer crap and that the pipes are probably still OK so I can probably spend my money better elsewhere.

    3.The delkevic headers are the larger diameter sames as 00&01, 98&99 had slightly smaller headers 1 or 2mm. They work fine on my 98.

    1. If the fork tubes are pitted it's usually cheaper/easier to just replace them.

    You can also use some header wrap for a fix if you want to save some bucks and get a set later on. Gives it that rough and race ready look :)

    With regard to the pitted sliders;

    FAQ

    body filler, epoxy putty, epoxy repair putty, aluminum epoxy, high temperature epoxy

    I have no experience with the filler, and little with powder coating (other than paying for it). It could be that RaceTech has a powder coating shop that they use; it's probably worth a phone call to find out. I'd be inclined to powder coat the sliders, just because it is pretty durable and easy to take care of compared to bare aluminum with a clear coat. And like the first link explains, the process can cover up pitting to some extent. But that's me; I can be incredibly lazy about some things.
