Just picked up a 1999 VFR with 2900 miles on it. I thought it was a hoax, but appears to be true. I am the third owner and the title says the previous owner purchased it in 2005 with 382 miles on it. He says he bought it from a guy who just collected bikes and never rode them. Unfortunately the guy I bought the VFR from was kind of a hack, and most of the fairing bolts and push nuts were missing. This seems common with VFRs I looked at. It cost me about $80 for all the fairing hardware. Also, the inner fairing was broken because all the weight of the fairing was pulling on it (this is the black plastic below the instrument panel).
Also a lot of basic maintenance to do: oil change, filter, brake fluid, new tires (original tires on the bike!!!-made in 1998) etc. Pretty much looks brand new otherwise. It was kept covered in a heated garage.
Glad to have a pre-VTEC finally!

I'd check for rust in the gas tank, if you've got it you'll want to break up the old rust and probably put some sort of tank liner treatment in. 2900 miles that bike must have just been sitting, I'd replace the brake lines (not just the fluid), flush/drain/refill the radiator with non-silicated Honda Coolant (it's not that much more expensive),

Enjoy the VFR, now you just need to ride it like it's meant to be... 2900 miles on a 9 year old bike is a joke! I did 4000 on my 500 in 3 months.

With mileage like that, it is practically new. I had a 5th Gen before I bought my 6th Gen and you will absolutely love it. It is a great bike.

Congrats on the find. I bought my '99 with only 1,700 miles on the clock in September 2007. It still had the original tires and brake fluid!! I did have to replace some bolts because they had been there for so long they were rusting.

    Welcome. 5th Gen's rule.

I'm surprised no one has yelled at you for the "pre VTEC" comment.

    KC-10 FE out...
