Hello everybody. I am a troll who has come forward. I have narrowed my search for a bike down to a 1999-2001 VFR800. I want a D & D pipe, a Sargent seat, a power commander, a K&N, and lowered 1". I want to thank the site memebers for all the video/audio clips and advice. You help me decide over the last 6mos and I am in the process of putting the cash aside now. I have some experience as a rider, having put 3500 miles on a F4 600. The VFR will be my "bike to live with" as a commuter and weekender. Thank you all.
GLad to be of assistance....but if you wouldn't have lurked for 6 months we could have convinced you earlier to get a VFR and you would be riding by now....LOL welcome out of the "closet"
Good point If I had the down payment saved I would be on a viffer as we speak, not at a computer...it was between the VFR and a Speed Triple...the Honda won after a test drive.
Welcome for sure. I agree with Shorty. Crusty is right. But Shorty is still without. Step up to the plate Shorty. Lsotdog. Prepare yourself for some good advise, some indifferent advise and some plain bizzar behaviour...as I am sure you have already experienced
I was all about the tripple until I sat on it. For some reason I got all messed up on it. It just felt wrong to me. That was 2 years ago now and I'm still pissed I did not want it anymore. Ended up on the 04 FZ1 gen1. The Gen 5 Viffer is a hell of a bike. Good Hunting
choices I loved the Triple...but this is going to be my primary vehicle (my truck gets 13 MPG) and I couldn't see "living" on the Triumph. Plus, the insurance on the VFR was half the cost of the S3. I didn't like the 6th Gen I tested...it felt almost too "well behaved" and I really didn't see the point of the VTec except as a marketing tool. I don't deny it being a great bike...but the sound of the cams and look of of the 5th Gen sold me...so I tested a '99 that was sitting in the back room of a dealership (the owner is "selling it" by riding it every day). Fell in love with the ride and the sound of a V4 with a pipe. At 28 I may be the youngest VFR fan I know...all the people I ride with are part of the Gixxer/'Busa/CBR/ZX/Ninja crowd...but I just don't enjoy the experience of contorting a 5'9" 215lb frame onto a loud sowing machine and only riding 30min before the back and shoulders cramp. Too bad they dont make a "VF800"...Nekkid Interceptor...
