OK; So figured I would introduce myself as a new member and say HELLO. My name is Scott and I'm the proud (new) owner of a like new all stock red 2004 vfr800 with only 10,000 one owner miles. I am a long time rider (since age 18) and I guess one of the older vfr riders at age 53. My last ride was a Harley Ultra Classic. I began planning to rid myself of it after the last expensive round of repairs and major lack of performance at all levels.s Anyway have owned all types of bikes including but not limited too a Hayabusa, Rocket iii, and numerous Harley's. I just love my vfr and will be posting pic's soon, as I begin modifying it for more touring than sport. I have ordered a speigler handle bar conversion kit, handle bars from a honda 919, Givi sport touring windscreen. Still have not decided on a corbin or seargent seat (any suggestions?). I took it down too my Honda dealer and they ran the vin# found 2 outstanding recalls (brakes and elec.). Brakes ok but new electrical harness ordered. Now a open question while I was at said Honda dealer I mentioned that I was not looking forward too the (big) 16,000 mile service as thats when the valve adjustment is due and can run into some money. Their head mech. happened too be standing there and said that (those motors rarely need adjustment). EXCEPT when the exhaust is changed. So my question is has anybody seen any corelation of cam wear to exhaust change and or use of a powercommander. Thanks. Sorry so long winded.
Welcome to the nuts house, there are many memeber here over 60 so you are still a puppy..........lol well you pick the right bike there are many mod can do to the bike for your personal comfort............As for valves adjustment the mechanic was right. not many vfr need the adjustment and many of member here either skip or never have them done. As longas the motor run tight no ticking noise you can skip for the next schedule. I did my at 16k and no adjustment made, have not done the valve adjustment since.
