Hey everyone. I just picked up a 1983 VF750F for $50. It's been in a garage for the past 5-6 years, no title and needs lots of work. It's missing the carbs, all the plastics, gauge cluster, headlight, front signals, rear caliper and who knows what else. There's rust in the tank, etc.

So what I'm wondering is would it be worth it to try and get it running, locate the missing parts, get a title etc OR just part it out? I don't have a very big budget to work with. Here are some pics of the bike as I brought it home. Thanks in advance for the advice.

    Hey....welcome.

    What's the mileage?

Any idea if the top end is in good shape....these things tend to eat up their top ends.

Sorry to come off so negative but you would be better off to part it or if it is a good engine , find a bike in better shape that just needs an engine and make it a donor.

could be worth it assuming no internal engine damage, it looks like someone tried to part it out and got bored... if the engine is good, I say go for it. Do a compression test via cranking and listen for bad sounds, then make the call. good news is there are about $1000 (or more) in parts if you want to part it out

The tank alone, assuming it isn't leaking, is worth more than what you paid...

Don't worry about it, I knew there was a chance it could be more trouble than it was worth. If I do decide to part it out would it be better to sell the whole thing as a parts bike or piece by piece on ebay? I have no idea what the parts for these bikes go for, all the other bikes I've worked on / started building were CB750 SOHCs. Thanks for all the input so far.

I agree with TC. Save yourself some headache and part that thing out. Make yourself a couple hundred bucks and move up.

I would say it's worth more in pieces - lots of pieces. ebay is your friend

I would say part it out here and at VFRDiscussions.com.
You should recoupe your costs and be able to buy a complete bike.

    Good luck.

TC TWS and Drewl hit it right on the head with a 10 lb sledge hammer, as much stuff that is missing your gonna pour money back into it and have 1000 bucks invested into a 300 dollar bike.. part her out help others that are almost finished with their projects and let her live on in that fashion...then take the money and get one that's not so bad off..

    good luck mi amigo

Well for anyone that's interested, found out that the motor seems to be good, at least it turns freely. Kinda makes me wonder about parting it out. Then again, the cheapest carbs that I've found anywhere near me are $450 :(
