    Hi all!!

I just wanted to introduce myself and say that it looks like there is a lot of good information here.

I am hoping that someone can tell me anything about a VFR250 or VTR250 that I happened across, the difference between the two and if it might be worthwhile to pick up. Thanks.

    I currently have a 86 VF500. (crappy pic)

    Hi TDuck,

Welcome to VFRWorld. Thats a nice looking ride (even for a crappy pic ;-) ) I like the seat cover on it. I don';t know much about the 250's and in fact I did not know they had a 250 until I found this site. lol. Somone else here might have more info available to them. I looked over at bikez.com and the only listing they had was for 2002. It is not a V4, it is a V2. IMO, a 250 is good for riding around town and short commutes. I had a Ninja 250, and any trips that called for more than an hours steady ride were a bear. Just one more reason to love my viffer.

On other notes: We have a dedicated chat room as well as a member map so you can see where some of us are located. You can also add yourself to the map so others can see where you are.

How long have you been riding? Is this your first bike? How do you like it? I have a 93 VFR 750, it is my 3rd street bike and I love it. I have been riding since about 1981, but I took a few years of as I had no bike to ride. Most of my riding was done off road, racing motocross. I love that sport. :-D

Hope you find the information within the site useful and never be afraid to ask a question. :)

    Vinny

I'll be damned, I don't actually know anything at all about the VFR250. If anyone finds any specs or information on it, PLEASE send it my way so that I can update the VFR Info section!

Welcome to the site, glad you joined us!!

    Cheers,
    Michael

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have been riding for over 20 years. Started with a 70cc Yamaha mini bike when I was about 13. The VFR is my second bike and absolutely love it. I kinda like the stuff from the 80's. My first motorcycle is pictured (crappy pic again) and still in my stable along with a couple of other bikes. The reason I asked about the 250 is that I might have a chance to pick one up. The person that I might get it from said VTR at first then he said it was a VFR. What is the difference between VFR and VTR anyway? All I am able to find online are pictures.

TDuck, I went to the Service Honda website and looked at their online parts manual list. There is no VFR 250 listed. There is a VTR 250 from 88 - 90. Not having any other info than the parts manual and looking for some pics online, I can say that the VTR 250 is a V-2. I do not have any other info as to relability or anything else. I would tend to think that it would be a good addition and would be good for short rides/commutes.

250 V Honda is definately a V2 they have had a V2 since the 1980's starting with the hand grenade VT250FII D. The later VTR. is a nice looking bike and a reasonable size physically . It looks a little like the Duc Monster in fact . Very reliable so I believe with non of the chocolate cam issues of the early stuff.

After a bunch of research, I've concluded that a VFR250 never existed. Now I feel better having not known about it! :)

There are a few folks who think that their VTR250 is a VFR250 because the VTR250 has been called an Interceptor. However, it's a V2 engine.

That being said, the VTR250 is probably a kick to ride, and you should compare it against the Ninja. Both of those would probably make a fabulous track bike (especially for someone as slow as me). :)

But, I admit, it's confusing because you can definitely find references out there to a VFR250.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the great info fellas. I hope this deal works out for me as I am leaning towards really wanting to pick this up, hopefully I can get it on the cheap. I found out tonight that it has been repainted.

The RZ isn't the perfect "little" bike to learn on. That VTR 250 that I am hoping to pick up would probably be a good learner.

    Features a 347cc, water-cooled, parallel twin cylinder, 2-stroke engine
Utilizes Yamaha's YPVS (Yamaha Power Valve System) engine design
    63 bhp @ 9,000 rpm with 39 ft./lbs. of torque @ 9,000 rpm
    Wet, multi-plate clutch
    Weight: 364 lbs. (wet)
    6-speed transmission
    0 to 60 mph: approx. 5.2 sec.
Top speed: approx. 200Km/h (125 mph)

It is an absolute blast to ride. When I first got it I had a hard time keeping the front wheel on the ground and it sorta kicks you in the pants around 6 grand.

Yeah we actually used to use a VTR250 as one of the student bikes when I used to be an MSF instructor for TEAM Arizona. My friend bought his wife a VTR250 and even rode it on the track a couple of times. Fun "little" bike!
