I currently own a VTX 1800 and and wanting to get into a vfr. It seems like any riders that I mention the vfr to have a very positive reaction. The only sportbike I have been on is a buddy's hyabusa. Nice bike but I am wanting comfort. The vtx is being sold because on a cruiser with my feet out in front puts too much weight on my lower back (athletics through college made an old man out of me quick!).
I have had my eye on a vfr for about a year now...ready to make the plunge. Look forward to joining everyone. Not sure what gen I am looking for. Part of my wants new bike so its in perfect condition, but other part wants to save money.

You can't go wrong with any year VFR. I bought my 3rd back in march. I just had to have a 25th edition. Had my 86 700 for 11 years berore that and a 86 500 as well. If you want comfort in a sport VFR is it you can slide up aganst the tank and almost sit straight up. I did an 383 mile day no problem! If you want an opinion on the whole VTEC issue I LOVE mine it has my vote! I have put 6500 miles on my 25th in just 8 Months. I got to tell you I sold everything I thought I could do without on ebay borrowed money from my mom and now have to watch every dime I spend and you know what I have no regrets.

As stated above, they are all good bikes. We have probably overstated this but the VFR is very good at a lot, but probably not the best at any one thing. If you want a great all-around bike on the street, you can't go wrong with a VFR. If you want bang for your buck, I don't think there were enough improvements to justify the added cost of the 6g (02-present) unless you get a really good deal. 5g (98-01) can be found for 3000-4000 usually in very good condition, sometimes a little higher for pristine examples. I'm not sure about 4g bikes as far as price. I think they are close to 5g as once VFRs depreciate to the $3000 range, they pretty much don't seem to drop too fast from there. As always, this is JMHO, and YMMV. ;)
