So I'm sitting at my desk and I hear this Bagger approach the exit of our complex parking lot. He stops and he's looking each direction for traffic, but something just doesn't seem right. He takes off and I immediately say out loud to myself, "This dude doesn't know how to ride!" He's trying to keep his balance left and right and I can tell he's fighting the bike trying to make it "turn". All of a sudden he guns it and launches straight across the street, jumps the curb and goes up a rock wall and flies off. The bike comes smashing down right next to him.

To the right is where he launched up the wall.

Took me a second to figure out what was sitting on the seat.

    Oh... I see...

    And then I saw this...

I cannot imagine trying to learn to ride on something that heavy. Shit, it probably costs as much as all of my bikes and truck put together as well.

You offer him $500 for it? Hopefully he's alright. His ego won't be, but hopefully his bones and skin are.

I work right across the street from Emerald City Harley Davidson. But this whole thing was weird. I don't think the bike was from there. The dealer is not usually open on Mondays, but there was a couple cars in the lot and a couple bikes out on a landing outside the front door. The service dept was not open.

He was limping pretty bad when we walked to the dealer for help. He was limping a lot worse on his return trip. No riding gear to speak of and a weird Scorpion 3/4 helmet that isn't something you usually see with a Harley. Watching the three guys from the dealer trying to push the bike backwards down the side walk was pretty entertaining though.

I have no idea why he was in our lot. He was leaving and trying to turn left, away from the dealer. But he entered thru the other gate opening I think. So if he was using the complex to turn around, he came from the opposite direction of the dealer and tried to return that way.

I asked him, "What the fuck happened?!"

"I gave it too much gas when I shouldn't have. I just screwed up."

I didn't say a word and just started walking back to work. Anything I wanted to say wouldn't have helped.

Is that number plate a temporary unit applied by a dealer for test rides? In which case, I think the rider just made a purchase decision!

Yeah. Mostly on used bikes like trade-ins. We (select employees) would use them to borrow used bikes for rides and to sometimes pick up bikes and ride them back to the dealer.

I managed to make an inadvertant purchase decision to buy a VF750F when I borrowed it from the bike shop I worked at and took it for an exuberant test ride. Turns out the the front brake locked surprisingly easily when panic grabbed at 180km/hr...I was told I could either buy the bike and repair parts for cost, or pay the shop's insurance excess...

These dealership stories you guys post snippets from sound wild.

Granted, I guess we have people driving 900lb Harleys up cliffs now and splitting wheels. Now I'm starting to think he worked there.

I talked to him and he didn't come across that way. He seemed completely unconcerned about being at the scene if anybody showed up. A bad rider on a big unfamiliar bike that chose to "gas it out" when his launch, balance and skills were complete shit.
