I Recently Purchased A 1999 Vfr And Wanted To Know What Would Be A Good First Slip On Exhaust Without Needing A Power Commander.

90% of the guys will probably recommend Staintune. They are indeed a quality piece that have the best construction & fit & finish of any muffler that I've ever seen. The only drawback is their price. If you can find one for under $460, buy it. I looked for 4 years and couldn't find one.

Avoid Two Bros. They are low quality POS's and I wouldn't put one of their mufflers on a riding lawn mower. I'm speaking from personal experience, I had one on my 2000 for almost 4.5 years. It basically fell apart among other things. I sold it for $75.

Since I couldn't get a Staintune at a reasonable price, I chose Scorpion. Like Staintune, they never need repacking. They use a steel wool core, not fiberglass like 95% of the mufflers out there. I got a CF oval can, it looks great, sounds great, has impeccable fit & finish and best of all was under $350 delivered to my front door. If you get the SS Scorpion, it rings up at less than $275 delivered.

Lastly, FYI, you will not need to PC your bike. A fuel injected engine doesn't know or care what kind of muffler is on your bike. All it knows is how much air is coming & going. It will change the fuel delivery to suit.

    KC-10 FE out...

My 2000 VFR800 has D & D pipe since I bought it, no Power Commander, I can't say if it offers any performance gain from OEM, but the sound does make a big impression every where I go. The engine sounds like a small block V8 when rev-ed up.

They wont be laughing after you get a pipe on your bike, they'll be jealous! Nothing sounds as good as a VFR rumble after the factory restrictions are removed.
