Hey All- Went looking for new gear today (all my stuff is Harleyish) so I needed to upgrade. The only thing around here is a Cycle Gear, which actually wasn't too bad. I picked up a decent pair of leather pants and some gloves. I already have a street jacket, and although it doesn't "match" the new gear it's fine for now. Where I'm suckin is boots. First, they don't carry crap above size 10. The only two pair of 13's I found were a pair of Sedici's that were too small, and a pair of Bilt's that fit, but not very well, and they really sucked. My normal shoe size is a 13, in both running shoes and issue combat boots. But sizes in riding boots seem really inconsistent. There isn't anything else within 70 miles of here, so I'm probably gonna have to order online which scares the crap outta me due to the whole size thing... Is there a good "rule-of-thumb" for ordering boots & getting the size right on the first shot? I'm not a gear-queer, so I could give a damn less about brand names or high dollar stuff, as long as it's decent gear. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

I'm about to order the Sidi On-Road Gore-Tex Boots. Waterproof, have a real sole, and don't look like ballerina wear. $325.00.

If you have wide feet, TCX is the only way to go. My Competizione S's are awesome.

    KC-10 FE out...

I just ordered a new set of TCX's as well (current is also TCX). They showed up on Friday, but were the waterproof version, so they are going back. I am normally a size 11, I ordered a size 11, and they seem to fit well. A bit tight, but I'm guess that with a little wear and tear and walking around, they should loosen up a bit. There is also enough room in the calf area to tuck your pants in.

If you have wide or fat feet 82nd, the Sidi's probably won't work.

I hope this otherwise useful thread doesn't dissolve into some foot fetish discussion.

Having worked @ Cycle Gear I know you can get almost any boot out there from them. A Stars, Sidi etc. Did you look through any of the catalogs they have? They have a no hassle return policy so if they dont fit or simply don't like them you can bring them back any time. Even if you order online they can be returned to you local store so you don't have to ship them. Sizing charts are included with every online page/ product. I've ordered more than one size for a customer and simply sent the one that didn't fit back.

I had to order the Dainese from Cycle Gear due to sizing as well. Got them and they are absolutely the most comfortable boots I have had yet. I've heard good thinks about the Alpine Stars and the Sidi's as well.
I would buy the Dainese again in heartbeat, they are comfortable, offer great support, and stylish with jeans (requirement from wife)

I had astars then switched to sidi. I like the sidi better but they squeak when I walk. I wear an 11 in most boots sonthe size 45 was spot on for me. My foot is not wide though. If you can't try them on, research size charts on website of brands you are considering. I know what you mean about worrying over sizing. I am in the middle of ordering an aerostich suit secondhand...

A little gory but when a fighter augers in sometimes all that's left is the pilot's feet. Fighter pilots are footprinted. Same-o with military test pilots. The boots from the various manufacturers look like the boots that the real fast dudes wear. For that matter, helmets and leathers too.. but they aint. Some of the boots by Dehner's were invented by SAC General Curtis LeMay who wanted quick don boots to get the aircraft aloft. Also, worn by NASA and USAF pilots in Project Mercury, X-15 ect.

Pricy? Yep.. Custom made? Yep? Slow turnaround? yep and the damn things dont even have label on the outside so the little dudes who are just learning to read might think you are really one of the fast dudes and they are made in the USA, just like Springsteen and that other guy some of the nutcases were worried about awhile back.

If TCX is still holding to the same quality that they did when they were OXTAR then I would go with them.

The company used to only makes boots for motorcycles.

The OXTAR's are 9 years and running strong still. Though they are not the most comfortable for walking.

What about an old school pair of the tall Bates boots? I have been considering a pair but have no experience with them.

Just read a review on webBikeWorld for Falco 480 "Raid" waterproof leather boots. Similar to the Sidi On-Road Gore-Tex Boots, but more substantial, for $230.00. That's $95.00 less than the Sidi boots. Both are Italian! Hmmmmm... Decision, decisions...

I wear 12 extra wide in normal shoes, and I had a ton of trouble looking for a new boot. What I eventually decided on is a Shift Fuel boot. Not a full racing boot, but it does extend past the ankle bone and holds up well during traditional street use. I'm not sure I'd want to ride a race with it, but for anything else it's been fine for me. Only costs about a hundred bucks and fits great too.

I just bought a pair of Icon superduty 4 boots. Very similar to the shifts that mystery16 has pictured. Sizing was my problem too. I have wide feet and wear a 13 in boots/shoes. I bought size 12 and they fit great. I tried icon accelerant in 12's and they were too narrow. So far the superduty boots are comfy and have decent ankle support. Wish the manufacturers would standardize the sizing

Thumbs up for the SIDI On Roads. Mine are 4 yrs old ( I have the old 'uns w/ the 4 straps down the side), and nary the whiff of a leak after riding in monsoon like rain, have worn well, and very comfortable even if a little on the light side. A friend had a leak in his 3 yr old On Roads, sent them back, and they were repaired free of charge 45 is a good fit for a size 11, 46 if you want to wear thicker socks in cold weather.

OTOH, if those Falcos are even close to the SIDIs I'd go for 'em.

IMO, the manufacturers are waiting for standardized feet. No offense to the metric dudes implied.
