This battery type is supposedly the newest technology for all kinds of battery applications. It only weighs 1.8lbs, and supplies COMPLETE power right up until failure, i.e. available current does not fall off as battery discharges, and no fire/explosion issues as well

I need to replace my motorcycle battery and came across this. Anybody buy one got any comments one way or the other?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_iron_phosphate_battery

    http://www.victronenergy.com/upload...-Volt-lithium-iron-phosphate-batteries-EN.pdf

and one for sale on amazon . . .

    http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tende...8-CELL+LITHIUM+BATTERY+HONDA+VF750C+V45+MAGNA

Any input at all would be appreciated, thanks

My preference is AGM type batteries, lithium seem to cause various problems, some people are happy with them some have problems

granted these LiFePh batteries are new technology (vs older proven technology) the one main hazard of LiOn batteries was the fire explosion potential. That no longer is an issue with the LiFePH chemistry.

I appreciate your input and will look in AGM!

I think but am not sure the Lithium batteries like a stabilized charging supply but with these Hondas the charging can be so erratic I think this can cause the Lithium problems. The fact you require a special charger for Lithium Iron batteries sends up warning bells for me

yeah I was curious about that. i was thinking a SPECIAL regulator would be required!

another rider at another forum said he is using a LiFePh battery but maybe hasn't had it long enough to realize the charging issues!

"These have been around for a few years. I've had my Shorai for 2 yrs now. Its like the one you show, but a different brand.

Its awesome. In cold weather, (40 degrees) you have to let it heat up. Otherwise, it acts like a very powerful normal battery. Light and compact.

I wont buy any of the older style again after using this. I dont know, on the c14 who cares about weight, but for my ninja, for sure"

I have been running one for 4 years. ....no complaints.
-If you understand that care and feeding is different from a normal lead acid, youll be fine. Feed it dog food, not cat food. No charger required.

ok JTB thanks seems as though there's a splt between types. Some like the old lead acid, some like the Sealed gel some like the AGM type and then theres this LiFePo!

    hmmm haven't decided yet.

    thanks once more

Our choice will be AGM form batteries, lithium seem to result in numerous issues, some people usually are very pleased with these people some have issues.

I have a shoie battery same thing as what your talking about-saves about 5 pounds and is better for Honda then AMG batterys-so far is 8 months old-works better-I got the biggest one-for extra power. I believe its far better than amg.

I also replaced my battery with a Shorai without issues. If you understand them they are fantastic batteries. No issues at 10 degrees starting the bike which I can't say the same thing for the AGM that was in it. No need for a battery tender either if you ride the bike once a month or two or so. The LiFE weighed 6lbs less as well.

LiFE batteries do not have as much reserve capacity as a regular AGM, so if your charging system takes a crap you will not be able to ride near as far on just the battery. The upside is that LiFE batteries maintain voltage and current capacity until they are dead even when its cold. You have to decide what is important to you since the cost is about the same. Again, you also need to understand the technology to get the best performance.

first, thanks to all update, to include robles sunofwolf hrccbr and again normk.

normk you mentioned to sunofwolf come back in 8 years! Does that mean an AGM will last for 8 years?

anyway I'm still undecided but it looks like AGM or the Shorai, even though one guy bought the "Battery Tender" above and said he has had no problems with it whatsoever, the label still looks like a pack of chinese firecrackers and just aint inspiring confidence.

Eto, no I just figured that 8 years without SOW was going to be better than any battery :playful:

I have the Battery Tender Lithium Iron battery in my track bike. The CBR1000RR. I just put it in 2 weeks ago. But I also bought the special charger. I seemed to go through a battery a year because my regular charger does not trickle charge very well. I bought this because it is lighter and states it lasts longer. If it lasts longer than a year it will be worth it. I am impressed with it so far. Amazing how small and light it was.
