Was the bike being used by the previous owner or was it one of those diamonds in the rough that was neglected in the corner of the garage/shed/barn or worst possible left outside for years? If the latter is the case you might as well bite the bullet now & have the carbs pulled, cleaned, rebuilt & sync'd. If it was being used on a somewhat regular basis start w/ the basics 1st Air make sure you have a good clean filter if you still have a stock filter & it looks bad replace it w/ a K&N, UNI or similar washable filter. 2nd Fuel check or basically just replace the fuel filter if you want to check this before buying a fuel filter I have had recent success back flushing the fuel filter. If this cures your problem plan on replacing the filter as soon as you can as you may cause pores in the filter media to open up by back flushing. If you notice rust in the inlet of your filter you could also have tank & petcock problems. Fuel pump could possibly be an issue to but if it starts & idles @ all its probably not the problem. I know idle speed on my 86' is supposed to be set @ 1200 don't know what yours should be but it should be listed on a tag somewhere under your seat w/ all the other specs. If it is low turn it up some you will probably have to readjust after the engine gets warmed up as the idle speed is supposed be set for a warm engine. Hope this helps; remember to post what you find it will help those w/ future problems.

Idle for a 93 VFR 750 is 1000 RPM. I just looked at the tag on mine.
